Former Sex Addict Says Instagram Fuelled Her Obsession With One Night Stands

A former sex addict who has slept with between 100 and 200 men believes Instagram fuelled her obsession.
Laurie Jade Woodruff, from Sheffield, UK, said she used the social media site to hook up with strangers several times a week - though she believes the one night stands were more of a quick fix than any sort of solution.
Speaking to The Sun, the 30-year-old said:
"Instagram is a playground full of temptation. At my worst, I was obsessed with the thrill of sleeping with strangers, and social media made it scarily easy to do. Forget going to a bar or bothering with pricey dating apps, Instagram would help me hook up in minutes for free from the comfort of home.
"Sex was like a quick fix for me. I felt so empty inside and longed for intimacy, connection, closeness.
"So I would dress up in provocative gear, even though I didn't really enjoy posing in it, and post the photos online. Within minutes, I'd be getting compliments and naughty private messages from men I'd never met.
"Instagram made it so easy to attract attention. But it took me years to realise how damaging that kind of attention - based purely on my looks - could be."
Ms Woodruff, who has a two-year-old son, has since stayed celibate for six months with the help of a 12-step programme. She believes she will always have to battle her addiction, however, she hopes to avoid the vulnerable situations that plagued her past.
She said: "Sometimes I'd see a guy again if there was a real connection but most of them were one night stands. Part of my addiction was about running in the other direction from anything like commitment.
"It terrifies me now but I didn't really vet anyone, and sometimes I would go back to a bloke's place without having a clue who he was.
Anything could have happened. I still can't quite believe I did that."
