Just got this info from a friend.
Understand that in year 2005, there were 15K Singaporean students who were eligible for government financial assistance. By end of year 2009, the number had increased to 50K Singaporean students. In case you are wondering about the eligibility criteria for a student to qualify for financial assistance, they are as follows:
Income Limits

Note that being eligible does not mean you will get it.
This revelation is quite consistent with bro Kojakbt's other insideinfo. With the influx of FT after the 2006 elections, wages of the typical Singaporeans have been dramatically depressed...
...and there's not gonna be any end in sight. Why?
Within the next two years, with the increase in school fees for PR and foreigner students, the policy will be changed such that even these PR and foreigner students will also be eligible to apply for financial assistance (to appease these PR and foreigners?). This will have long term implications to the Singaporean students who have genuine need for assistance as the available funds would have shrunk.
Now who is the congenital liar? Pinkie, Mentos or both?
