Why do Malaysians call Indonesians "Indons"? Don't they realise it is derogatory to Indonesians (just as derogatory as the word "Malingsial" for Malaysians)?

Indonesia till today will not recognise Malay as their national language. They renamed it as bahasa Indonesia. Indonesian nationalist made up of mostly Javanese fear Malay nationalism and break up of the country.
Hence the brutal extermination of all Malay sultanates in Sumatra and Kalimantan and subsequent " "Transmigrasi" Of Javanese to these islands to dilute malayness.
Not do sure what occured in Maluku and Sulawesi as it too had sultanates.
Meanwhile Javanese monarchy are retained in Jogjakarta.

Indonesian is based on a standardised variety of Malay. However, it is not referred to as Malay in Indonesia. Indonesian and Malaysian Malay have differences in vocabulary because of different colonial influences, pronunciation and some grammar. The Javanese form the largest ethnic group in Indonesia. While Javanese influence is present in Indonesian, it is not true that Indonesian nationalism is driven by Javanese fears of Malay nationalism alone. The Indonesian identity is complex and includes many ethnic groups.
