A 60-year-old man from southwest China who has amassed a collection of nine silicon sex dolls has insisted that he does not care about being labelled as a “pervert” because he regards them as his surrogate daughters.
“My love for my dolls is a father’s love,” said Yu Zhenguo, a resident of Huishui county in Guizhou province, told news portal Thepaper.cn.

His eye-catching hobby has made him the talk of the town, especially since he set up a social media account showing pictures and videos of him and his “daughters” visiting local beauty spots or going out shopping.
So far Yu, whose wife divorced him over a decade ago, has spent more than 100,000 yuan (US$14,500) on buying clothing and props such as musical instruments for the dolls.
Lest anyone get the wrong impression, he stressed that he only used the dolls for taking photos and his family had no problems with his pastime.
He said he never takes photos of his dolls without clothing nor does he allow anyone else to do that.

His curiosity was first piqued five years ago when he saw a female silicon doll, which he described as “so pretty, so lovely and so perfect” on sale in Beijing.
He was initially put off buying it because of the 80,000 yuan price tag, but a few months later he decided to take the plunge and order one online.

He named his first doll Xiao Xue and since then has celebrated the day she arrived at his house as her birthday, complete with a cake.
He holds a similar celebration for the eight dolls he has acquired since then – four of them donated by friends after they got married and their wives demanded their disposal – but he told the portal he still loves Xiao Xue the most.

Yu, who lives alone in a three-storey house, says he is glad of the company because his 19-year-old son is now working far from home.
He was adamant that his family has no problems with his hobby, adding that his son regards them as his sisters, his nieces often come to his home to play with the dolls while his neighbours just think he is living in his own world.

To illustrate his point, he told the story of the time he and his son were carrying one of the dolls in the street and a man walked up to them and pinched the doll’s breast.
He said this angered his son, who accused the man of being “impolite towards my sister”.
Yu added that he had a clear conscience about his collection. “It’s like other people’s hobbies, such as computer games. Hobbies are equal,” he said. “Rumours and curses can’t defeat me.”
