Irian jaya is on the same island as papua new guinea, the island is called papua.

Do the gals from irian jaya look like black gals and walk around naked like the papuans?

The Malays come from the same stock as those indos from the Riau Archipelago. Yes, generally darker than, say, the Javanese.

Interesting.

The riau archeipelago is quite small.

Btw someone mentioned that malays came from sumatra. Since malaysia is in the north and i am sure it is the homeland of the malays, they should have come from other places too?

They may be rite. I mentioned same stock, not Riau as the original birthplace of Malays. The stock actually covers the present Malaysia, South Thailand, South Phillipines, Riau, Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi, to name the major areas.

They belong to the island called New Guinea, the borderlines are political, not geographical). If they are in Irian Jaya or Papua, they are Indonesian citizens (yes, they have voting rights!)

As with backward tribes, they of course have had their share of injustice. Things are improving though. Thanks to oil and gas reserves, lives are improving.

IC sorry for not reading it right.

They actually cover such a wide area but yet are so different in terms of culture and religion. If they are in thailand they would most likely be buddhist, muslim in matland and catholic in phillippines.

I wonder why they never formed a nation of their own? And language wise well it's so different although similar.

If there was no china of today's size we could be like them having a few countries in that region but actually coming from the same race.

Btw java is next to sumatra but so different from them.

No, Islam has made them very insular. They are basically the muslims in south Thailand and south Philippines. Of course, those who migrated northwards have integrated into the mainstream.

About the Javanese and Sumatrans, the strait separated them for generations, hence the the difference. But of course, today, there no black and white distinction as you travel from west to east, more like a grey phase transition

Yes i understand that. I was wondering about the nationalitiy of those ppl u posted and i guess i shouldn't have asked cos they are after all from the same island and hence should have the same culture and language after all i believe indon annexed half the island.

They are really very very different from the indon ppl.

As for the natural reserves thing, i just have a feeling that not all well will be going for them. More indon or javanese ppl might already be settling over there and u know the oil companies and drilling stuff all over their villages. Hopefully they are not resettled into reserves like the indians.

Actually even a central thai or say a typical pinoy looks quite similar to these ppl. Anyway after some observation i can sort of differentiate a central thai from say a malay even though both are tanned skinned.

I noticed that some javanese look kind of chinese but i doubt they mixed with chinese on such a scale.

I read from a site about racial slurs that filippinos have quite a bit of chinese mixed into them and i was surprised by this. Didn't know that. Is it true???

Back to the stock of the malays thing, were it not for the sea seperating philippines from malaysia well those muslims might have taken over philippines.

To most outsiders like me for eg. They are all simply malays for lack of a better term.

Look at the violence in indon simply cos the ppl there are so different but forced under a govt and 1 religion.
