IDA’s foreign talent with fake degree left Singapore for Silicon Valley
Last year, a controversy erupted when netizens found that the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) had recruited an Indian national who obtained her master’s degree from a degree mill.
IDA applications consultant, Nisha Padmanabhan was discovered by netizens to have obtain her master’s degree from Southern Pacific University, which was closed in the United States by a court order.
When public anger was mounting, IDA came out to defend their decision in employing Ms Padmanabhan. After finishing its investigations, the IDA said it is satisfied that Ms Padmanabhan did not deceive the agency by listing the MBA from the phony university.
The IDA argued that Ms Padmanabhan’s employment was not based on her MBA but on her bachelor’s degree. Also, it considered her skills “relevant” to IDA’s work. Ms Padmanabhan’s basic degree is from the University of Mumbai in India, a university whose ranking is more than 700+ in the world.
“She had genuinely believed her MBA programme to be bona fide, and she had put in effort to obtain the qualification,” an IDA spokesperson defended Ms Padmanabhan.
Left Singapore
Apparently, in her latest Linkedin profile, she disclosed that she had left IDA in November last year, after IDA came out to defend her publicly to say that her skills are “relevant” to the agency.
She now appears to have left Singapore too and is working as a project manager/business analyst in San Francisco Bay Area. She no longer lists her phony MBA degree from Southern Pacific University in her profile:
