More than 100 evacuated, 7 conveyed to hospital in Jurong fire
An early morning blaze at the lift landing area of Block 716, Jurong, roused residents resulted in more than 100 residents being evacuated, and seven conveyed to hospital for breathlessness.
All this was the result of discarded items being left out at the lift landing of the third storey in this block being set ablaze.
Joy, who lives opposite this block, caught sight of the blaze.
She told STOMP:
"The following pictures were taken of a fire on the 3rd storey of Block 716 at around 6 am on the 24th of January 2009.
"I live on the 3rd storey of Blk 719 which is opposite Blk 716 and had a clear view of the fire."
STOMP checked with the SCDF, and a spokesperson said a call was received about the incident at about 5:54 am, about a fire outside on the corridors and lift landing area.
It was caused by discarded items left there and set on fire.
More than 100 residents were evacuated, some by the SCDF, some by themselves, and seven were sent to hospital after complaining of breathlessness.
