In the Future, There Might Be Breast Milk for Adults

The world has been pretty crazy about equality lately, and it has got to a point where adults have raised the all-important question.
“Why do babies get all the breast milk? What about us?”
In response, a biotech company based in Berkeley called Sugarlogix has crafted a game-winning plan: you can’t drink the milk, but you CAN have the sugars that make breast milk so unique.

How does it work?
Sugarlogix intends to isolate the sugars that make breast milk special, and incorporate these sugars into a product for infants and adults alike.
They have been pretty confident about it, going to the extent of claiming that the sugars could be the next health craze.
Does science allow it?
If applicable, it’s certainly revolutionary.
But is it a reality, or just a debunkable fad?
According to a report, scientists have pointed out more than 200 contrasting sugar molecules or human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) in breast milk (HMOs are the third most plentiful ingredient in human milk, after lactose and fats).
In 2006, “one research team found that the sugars nourish bifidobacterium longum infantis (B. infantis), a bacteria that feeds off HMOs, and in turn, raises the acidity levels of the gut environment.”
And if Gizmodo’s report is correct, the gut becomes more aggressive towards pathogens like E. Coli.
So… our gut levels up and attains a new passive skill, “Increased Aggression?”
“The bacteria also encourages the production of proteins that close the gaps between gut cells to keep microbes out of the bloodstream, and of anti-inflammatory molecules that boost the immune system.”
Yep, this confirms my suspicions: breast milk is a power-up item.
Sugars for babies who are not breast-fed
Sugarlogix is currently working towards the development of sugars for babies who are not breast-fed.
But it’s only the start: the company intends to promote the benefits of breast milk to grown-ups.
Well, as a grown-up who’s into the whole health thing (I like to think so, anyway), I must say that I don’t mind having it to supplement my ailing body. Not one bit.
Kulika Chomvong, chief executive officer of Sugarlogix, told Gizmodo that the company plans to turn its powder-form sugars into a prebiotic pill.
“This is the very first time adults can really harness the power of breast milk,” Chomvong said.
She also wishes that the company will subsequently market its sugars to food producers.
Don’t we all.
But guys, you gotta admit.
Breast milk in the form of a powdered prebiotic supplement is a phenomenal venture.
