A MAN caught urinating onto an MRT track was jailed for four months on Tuesday for punching an SMRT station manager.
V. Nadarajaan N. Vadivelu, 53, who was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, admitted to hurting Mr Pok Sing Foh, 46, at Tanah Merah MRT Station on June 8 last year.
A Community Court heard that Mr Pok saw Nadarajaan urinating onto the MRT track at about 1.30pm that day and contacted the station manager.
Both men then approached Nadarajaan and questioned him.
He turned defensive and was uncooperative. The police were called.
While being escorted to the station control room, Nadarajaan suddenly threw a punch on the victim's face. The station manager pulled him away.
Nadarajaan, who has convictions for traffic offences, disorderly behaviour, causing hurt to deter a public servant and using abusive words, pleaded for a light sentence. He could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $1,000.
