Bus route review
'We depend too much on trains.'
MR ADRIAN BEK: 'I refer to Monday's report, 'Govt to review long bus routes'. With the opening of Circle Line MRT stations, it is time the Government reviewed current bus routes to ensure cheaper and easier travel for commuters. We should not be over-reliant on one form of transport. In the 'hub-and-spoke' model, we depend too much on trains to carry most commuters. When the first train lines were built, they complemented buses to prevent overcrowding. With the current overcrowding in trains, this review should consider whether scrapping 'cross-country' bus services is in the best interest of commuters.'
