I know a guy who wasted 3 years going to poly to take a diploma in accounting.

Not really. No matter what, accounting still involves some technical knowledge whereas admin can be downright simple tasks such as filing, data input or replying some emails.
Most cheapo n small companies..the admin is the accounts. N with modern accounting software etc.. the difference is minimal... further more. He is a dip in accounting so basically a book keeper...if he is a chartered accountant than its different. So it's basically a tall story

He should upgrade to a degree in accounting. Graduates in accounting are in demand because of their specialised skills,Furthermore, accounting training is a highly portable, absolutely reliable qualification for any new career. Whatever industry you are in,and particularly in business-related fields, accountancy training is invaluable.

He can't even grasp the basics in accounting, how is he going to handle a degree course?

Not everyone can be a university student. There are always all kind of jobs for everyone. Your "friend" above might be suitable for less stressful jobs like cashier which is good for him.

If he can passed the Dip in accounintg,I'm sure he knows the basics in accounting.Maybe ,he just need to go for some tutorials and revisions to upgrade his knowledge,
not forgetting that accounting is a practical course with a lot of calculations.

As they say in Chinese, every job/vocation/profession/trade produces a scholar. He should work according to his knowledge, abilities, interests.IF he likes cooking as a cook,he should not forced himself to be an Admin Officer or Engineer.

The threadstarter mentioned "He doesn't understand what is being taught and just pass with c and d grades."
I can tell you there's no way he can handle a degree course which is technically way more demanding than his poly course. Simply put, he's not cut out for this.

I understand your point.Every individual has his limitations. No point for him to struggle to achieve a degree which he don't understand and hate. It is better for him to do a course to be a coffee-maker or baker etc using his SkillsFuture Credit.

Accounting skill is a talent, it simply cannot be taught. It can only be nurtured, just like how Colonel Trautman nurtured a resilient Rambo into a mean fighting-machine.
