You missed the point of the NCMP system. It increases swing votes toward PAP since many in the middle are assured of NCMPs in Parliament even if opposition lost. If the system is scrapped in advance, opposition votes would have been higher. However, since the system is in place, why not take it according to the results? NCMP presence can help next election.

When GRC system was introduced, WP under JBJ announced that WP is against GRC but would contest as many as possible cause defeating it is the best way of breaking it down. It took more than 20 years and today we see one. Same for NCMP system, use it against them to break them down, just like Sylvia Lim did.
