The iPad SUCKS!
It is garbage.

Doesn't run OS X. Runs the IPHONE OS.
Can't multitask.
Isn't widescreen (screen is 4:3 aspect ratio).
No FLASH ! Severely cripples web experience.
Screen type is inappropriate for reading ebooks.
No video out.
No camera. Can't use for video calls.
Awful!

Netbooks > iPad

Giant iPod with a clip-on keyboard. No, it's not a netbook, it just sucks.

It is the
Apple iPad.
Comments?

it is just another toy for the boys and girls.
not for me, but it does not suck.
apple make good product.

US$499 is too ex. one could get a netbook at that price..make it half price it will sell like hot cakes...

1. depends on your usage, for most people iPhone OS is good enough for daily usage.
2. who runs flash?
3. HDMI is cool...if they add this..
4. still many software like pplive cannot run in iPad or even OSX like Windows do..
5. run VOIP apps over WIFI, call friends and family overseas!!
6. ten of thousands of software written for iPhone can be used in iPad.

but great enough to let my kid play with....for average consumer, not for techies..

13 Glaring iPad Shortcomings

Much hyped iPad hits the market AFP/Getty Images – An early customer emerges from the Apple store on Fifth Avenue with Apple's new iPad in New York …

The iPad shows great promise. It's thin and sleek and not like any other gadget out there. It was also more hyped than any new device in recent memory. But is it worth buying?

Given the cost, and a slew of drawbacks, the answer boils down to how much you're willing to pay for a toy.

We've been testing both a low-end and top-end iPad all weekend, also letting family members age 9 to 59 try it out and offer their reactions, and our overall conclusion is that while the iPad is fun to play with, it's hard to figure out what role it fills that some other device doesn't do much better. Here are the most severe problems we see:

It's Awkward

You can't carry it on your hip like a phone, so it presents the same portability issues as any laptop - you'll need a case of some sort to protect it and carry the power cable. Even around the house, there's no simple way to carry the iPad. It's too thin, heavy, slippery and expensive to put under your arm. Several of our testers were seen carrying it like a dinner tray, as a butler would, to go from the kitchen table to the couch. Portability, shmortability.

It's heavy
To be sure, at 1.5 pounds and with all this functionality, the iPad is an impressive feat of engineering. But it's simply not light enough (a Kindle ebook reader is about 10 ounces) and that heft adds to the awkwardness. Holding the iPad in one hand for more than a few minutes to watch a movie or read an ebook results in tired wrists. Even holding it with two hands to read an ebook is tiring. Reading an ebook on a smartphone is ergonomically much more practical.

It's slippery

We might ignore the awkward size and weight, but the iPad is also slippery, and its aluminum back is ever-so-slightly slightly concave. You feel as though it'd slip right out if you try to hold it under your arm. And on the kitchen counter, it slides and twirls as you try to type or swipe the screen (required for navigating). It needs rubber feet, but of course then it won't be near as cool.

The screen has too much glare
The iPad has the same glossy screen as Apple's Macbook Pro laptops and iMac desktops. Unless you're reading in a very dim room, the glare will be noticeable and can be distracting. Outdoors, even in the shade, the glare is really annoying.

Forget reading in the sun
If you thought to take your iPad along for an outing in Central Park or at the beach, forget about it. While bright and contrasty indoors, the iPad's screen looks washed out and is almost impossible to view in bright sunlight. The Kindle's non-glossy e-ink display fares much better outdoors than the iPad's screen.

Fingerprints are annoying

Once you've used the iPad for a few minutes, among the most glaring shortcomings (besides the screen glare) are the fingerprints on the screen. With a smartphone, you can wipe the screen on your shirt or pants. The iPad is too big for that. We're wondering what exactly to clean it with and where we'll keep the cleaning supplies.

It does not multitask
The iPad runs the same operating system as the iPhone, and as a result has all of the iPhone's limitations. The most obvious of these is the inability to multitask - or do multiple things simultaneously. The iPad can't run more than one app at a time (with the exception of a few Apple apps, such as iPod, the iPad's music playing app). While this is may be acceptable in a smartphone, it's a major handicap in a device that Apple expects people to spend hours at a time on. (11 iPhone Tips That Also Work on the iPad )

The browser is limited
The iPad also uses the same limited Safari browser that's found on the iPhone. While much fuss has been made about the iPad's inability to play Flash video, there are other things it can't do as well. For example, Safari on iPad can't be used to create Google Documents, only to view them.

The virtual keyboard stinks
While the virtual keyboard on the iPad is much larger than the iPhone, it's still awkward to type on glass. Even those who've used tiny, cramped netbook keyboards will be disappointed by the lack of real keys and likely reduced to one-finger typing. The iPad can be paired with a physical keyboard, but even this is awkward, because the actions normally done with a mouse or a trackpad on a desktop or laptop have to be done with your finger on the iPad.

There's no USB port

The lack of even one USB port - the universal means of connecting just about everything these days - means you can't connect the device to a printer or other computer peripherals, such as an external hard drive. The iPad can be connected to cameras, but it requires the purchase of a separate accessory from Apple.

iPhone-only apps look horrible
Apple boasts that many of the 150,000 apps already available on the iPhone will also work on the iPad. What the company doesn't tell you is that when enlarged to fit on the iPad's screen, these iPhone apps look horrible, with images and text very pixelated. For this reason, many people will opt to buy apps that are made specifically for the iPad, which tend to be more expensive than their iPhone counterparts.

The price is just too high

$499 is just the beginning, a low-memory model that will fill up too quickly for anyone with a big music library and/or an appetite for video. Toss in ample memory and a 2-year, $280 "we'll replace it even if you drop it" warranty at Best Buy, and you're out $1,000. Given the iPad's weight, awkwardness and slipperiness, we think the warranty is smart.

It doesn't replace anything

The iPad will not replace your smartphone. Unless you can't type, it won't replace your laptop. If you love books, you could argue it's a great e-book reader, but let's see what your wrists say after a few days. The Kindle is a better e-reader. Frankly, we're not sure what need the iPad fills, other than the desire to be cool by owning a device that is in a class all its own.

Personal findings:

SUCKS worst than i-phone, got all the i-phone disadvantages and added on with more!

1. No memory card, all built-in memory, that means memory is LOCKED INSIDE IT, can not be ejected nor replaced nor upgraded. Same as i-phone.

2. No camera! Worst than i-phone! No 3-G video call!

3. No flash light! same as i-phone! Worst than PRC handphones, which can be used as pocket touch light.

4. No FM radio! same as i-phone! They for you to buy music from i-tune, Kay-Long Business!

5. Not removable battery! Same as i-phone!

enough said, throw away this rotten apple!
:(:(:(

I think all in all we have to take these report in perspective.

iPad isn't made to be a NETBOOK persay. It is just to fill in the gap between those who need the net but not the entire "BOOK" of it. those who need a phone but more than a Smart Phone. I would call it a quasi netbook. It coudl easily add in the USB port etc given today's technology but why not?

If Apple Does include the USB port, it will kill their own MacBook market. lets be realistic for a given price of US499, I think it more than suffice its value, anything more would be a killer.

OF cos as end users we wished we can have the cake and eat it, all in one. But for the company bottom line, do you think they will kill their own market?

I dont think iPAD is there to take over the netbook market, instead it is a genre on its own, therefore taking Apple to another competitive plane whereby they are the first before any other worthy competitors came along.

Until iMac came along, look at all the PC before iMac. Until iPod came along, look at all the MP3 before iPod. Until iPhone came along, look at all the smart phone before iPhone.

Apple revolutionizes the way we uses technology today. They are filling every possible niches they can find and create and even re-create new niches for the competitive market of gadgetries.

Even in Singapore, look at Komoco Motors, the AD of Hyundai cars. The new Tucson actually comes in 1.6 turbo version. Why didnt Komoco bring it in? Well, answer is least they kill their own 1.6 and 2L selections.

It is all pure business and numbers.

then i-pad is worst than any GSM GPS net-books.

buyers are suckers.

net-books have many USB + external VGA + ethernet socket + real HDD + real MOUSE + removable battery + SD card & memory stick readers + can attach DVD-RW

net-books can do ANYTHING that i-Pad is doing.

OS used by net-books are way way more flexible and powerful than i-pad

I see it with a nearly 10 inch screen so bright, and use handphone batteries inside then I knew it is going to be flat very soon after use. Needless to say. 25 watt hr in worst case will flat within 4 hr. Apple published 9 to 10 hr which are unrealistic conditionally ideal figures, which no user will really be able to sustain that length of time.

Truly the most bizarre post for a long time. Its a ball, no its not a ball, yes, its a ball, no its not ball and finally after getting your panties in a knot - " It is all pure business and numbers."

The issue is what is the purpose of its existence or simply put - its function or functions. If it is not "NETBOOK persay" what the hell is it for? One clear function is obviously being a fashion accessory. I can assure people will laugh when you start reading e-book with ipad and they will keep watching how long you can hold it up. This is just one of many things that people are complaining about. What "perspective" are you talking about?

Everyone knows nearly everything is "pure business and numbers".

Here is the first step about putting across a logical response - name one thing that ipad does well?

iPad will be excellent for watching videos. However most people dunno how to convert DVDs to their proprietary format.

Another easy way is to download from iTunes store through a US friend account or buy a gift card.

However with no USB, limited memory, battery which is not replaceable, no flash support, heavy, etc....

To conclude, iPad sucks. A big lemon. Sales is gonna suck big time after the rabid fanboys buy up the initial lot.

well for one,

iPad created the hype that almost non of its close cousins ever did. I would agree that iPad may just end up a fashion accessories.

I am not here to defend the product but I suspect most hate it for the sake of hating it and hate to see it do well. However negative the reviews get, you still get people que-ing and maybe in your honest opinions are "Stupid" people or wait, were you one of those in the que as well?

joke aside, iPad is just another extension of their gadgets like iphone and ipod to expand the business of iTunes. Imagine millions of Apps written by end users and commercial users just to satisfy a single brand gadget.... thats the power of attraction of Apple.

End of the day, no matter how sucks Apple products are, and I fully agree with some of those glitches and inconveniences it is causing me as well, Apple is no longer a geek product, it is a fashion statement... in fact all the past 2 CEOs I had worked under uses.. u guessed it - iPhone and MacAir...

Apple today can no longer be compared "apple to apple" with another tech product for it has already been elevated to the status of CULT following whether rightly or wrongly. Try as hard as you can to scream how bad Apple products is, all it takes is just their Prophet Steve to stand up and the followers claps and screams will submerge yours.

Well, cry foul, I tried, but of the 2 greater evil, microsoft and apple, I embrace the lesser evil of the two - i.e. Apple.

De Ipad will end up being an oversized PSP and DS. Increasing the screen size of Touch from 3.5 to 4.2 will be a much better option... At least u can still drop it in ur pocket...:D:D

Seriously those who kpkb don't get it.

Apple also not interested in their bitching - they are they, we make for us.

All the flaws, there are all along Steve Job's idiosyncrasies - all built in no expansion blah blah since the 1st Mac.

In essence, it is a cult product for a cult following .... doesn't have to be great in fucntionality or any other real world criteria.

SO long it is not too inferior a tech product, it's kool factor alone will guarantee sales.

Refresh your memory on how iPod took the world by storm.

Soon the culture & fashionistas will gain momentum & have a life of its own.

That is why linear thinkers like Creative's Sim cannot get it & have defintively lost the i-player Wars. Creative once thought it is simply commiting x humongous dollars to a saturated PR/marketing blitz - but it is not so simple.

Functions / Form / features etc have their place....

But sometimes they pale in the face of the mesmerising logo of Apple - the cult of aesthetics & charisma personified by Deity Steve Jobs.

Apple's products will fail to take mainstream as usual, including i-pod i-phone & mac. The useful portion of their concepts will be absorbed by competitive products which become popular instead. This trend is classic since 1970 era. Apple were not popular but Pineapple & Orange and Cherry etc were allover the places.

There is going to be clone i-phones everywhere and better-than-i-phone sharing some features around. i-pad also can not escape.

Excellent post.

By coincidence today was talking to a foreign chap who used to deal with Creative on behalf of a large and well European electronics company. He told me that it is likely to go bankrupt, sold or end up doing contract work.

I knew that Sim was hedging his bets by doing a rights issues some years back in singpaore. Typical of Singaporeans who don't read the propectus where it is mentioned that they wanted to buy their own property (this was the smokescreen) and also selling some of his stake (real reason) which ran into millions.

To be fair, it was Jobs and Wozniak that came out with the first PC, the GUI and many other innovative and truly world beating standards. Even their iphone is a class act. Their forte is intuitive interfaces and classy designs with high standards in what they deliver. Ipad seems the odd one out.

End of the day which product launches net in 700,000pcs in one single country? that's easily 35million USD.

good or bad... hate it or love it, there will still be a cult followings for Apple products. For me, it is the lesser of 2 evil Microsoft and Apple.

When I used a Windows Platform Lappy, within 2 years the OS will not be compatible with most products in the market. Keyword for Microsoft pocket is - FORCED UPGRADE on consumers. Whereas a Apple lappy last me easily more than 3 years without the issue of compatibility coz apple gives almost free upgrade until another latest OS come along but still they continue to have patches for some of the not so old OSes so that they can still be used.

well, Apple haters will always be there but I love my apple anytime to the days I was held hostage by Microsoft.

I had fallen in love with the charisma of Apple since 1981 when dumb dumb paid top dollar for an original Apple IIe (can't type in small caps some more)...

Life is fair, they can't win the mass market since they decided not to go the microsoft way of licensing DOS.

So in developing their cult & niche, they will always get a premium & enjoy mostly higher margins than the other makers.

I dare anyone even if you hate Apple, not to be impressed when you track the amazing performance of Apple's Stock price since Steve Jobs second return in 1997/98 .... from the morose days of that French CEO Gil Amelio, the Apple share price has rocketed beyond belief ! US$4-5 in 1997 to now easily above US$200 in 2010 !
