Singa and ERP are on their way to London
By Rachel Chan
COME April 25, even Singaporeans living as far away as London will not be able to elude Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries - even though this particular one is not in working condition.
A mock-up of the gantry will be set up at Hampton Court Palace in London, the site of this year's Singapore Day.

Singapore Day is a collaborative effort between the Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU) and various partners from both the public and private sectors to keep Singaporeans living abroad connected to home.
The organisers expect a turnout of 12,000 guests.
Balloons printed with familiar Singaporean symbols, such as the red signs depicting offences punishable by fines and Singa the Courtesy Lion, will adorn the palace grounds.
The tongue-in-cheek play on Singapore's icons came from the event's creative director, acclaimed film-maker Eric Khoo, who was also behind the inaugural Singapore Day in New York two years back.
"I want to create a happy, fun-filled environment that overseas Singaporeans could connect to - local icons re-fashioned in a pop-art sort of way," he said.
More than 150,000 Singaporeans live overseas, with 40,000 of them in the United Kingdom, which includes 9,000 in London.
OSU director Quah Ley Hoon said the budget for this year's Singapore Day is at least twice the $3-million budget for last year's event.
Ms Quah attributed this to the higher cost of living in Britain.
She said: "In terms of the production of the show, the physical setup will already cost around $3 million. But be it in good times or bad, we still need to reach out to Singaporeans living abroad."
The event will also showcase 16 recruitment booths - many set up by public-sector organisations - which will offer visitors a chance to rejoin the Singapore workforce.
