Pipe leaking for 22 hrs: Staff thought it was fixed, says PUB
PUB says the leaking pipe at Choa Chu Kang cemetery was not repaired immediately as staff thought it was another pipe that had been repaired earlier. The staff has since been issued a warning.
In an earlier post dated Jul 25, STOMPer Ang wrote in saying he was puzzled as to why a broken pipe at Choa Chu Kang cemetery was still not fixed despite him informing PUB about it.
In an email to STOMP today (Jul 28), a spokesperson from PUB says:
“PUB would like to post the following reply in response to the above post ‘Water is precious so why wait 22 hours to fix broken pipe?’
“PUB thanks STOMPer Ang for raising this matter and going the extra mile in trying to prevent water wastage.
“Two leaks were reported at approximately the same location. As repairs had been carried out on one of them, PUB staff wrongly assumed, without verification on site, that both reports were related to the same case. This led to a delay in repairs for the second leak mentioned in STOMPer Ang's report.
“PUB regrets the occurrence of this incident. We take a serious view of water wastage and have since issued a warning to the staff concerned. For feedback, please contact PUB's 24 hour call centre at 1800 284 6600.”
