How do you rate Mahidol University ?

In Thailand, it seems Chulalongkorn University is the undisputed TOP University, followed by Thamasat University.

Does anyone have any insight on the rankings of Universities in Thailand ? In particular, I would want to know where Mahidol University stands.

Mahidol University actually started out as an extension of Chulalongkorn University to specialise in medicine. Later, it grown big enough for King Bhumiphol Adulyadej to declare it a separate university and named it Mahidol University (after his father). Mahidol Adulyadej was of course also Prince of Songkhla. Another top ranking Thai university named in his honour is Prince of Songkhla University.

In today's standings, Mahidol should be ranking slightly behind Chulalongkorn and Thamasat generally, but should be still tops in medical category.

Prestigious? Of course. Many Thai parents would sell daughters into prostitution and mortgage their lands to fund their sons if they could qualify for admission. But most prestigious? That'd be contentious and fluidly variable from time to time, just like Harvard v. Yale and Oxford v. Cambridge etc.

Actually selling daughters to prostitution is a way of life in thailand. not kidding. Once a daughter becomes 18 in rural thailand, a pimp will approach her parents to let her 'work' in the city. he promises that she will be looked after and an attractive some of money will change hands. It's a willing deal between pimp and parents. that's why in thailand, daughters are generally more valued than sons.

Thailand has always had a unique culture when it comes to treating their women. It was documented when Zheng he led the treasure fleet to the Siam kingdom, the thai royal officials received the chinese delegates with a night of feasting, merriment and even offered their wives to sleep with the guests.

Ironically, it was Thaksin Shinawatra who tried to stop all these by welfare reform, healthcare reform, land reform, farmland reform, more help and more income for farming families so that they won't resort to all that. The north and north-eastern farmers don't give a damn whether Thaksin paid capital gains tax on sale of his corporation or not. They only said thank you very much, khop khun mak khrap. It was the Bangkok urban elites and palace-backed military who forced him to sell and run. Who would arrange a sale to be taxable if one still had the power to arrange it to be non-taxable, especially in a case of sell to run for life.

PAP government abolished estate duty at the time when Kwa Geok Choo is three-quarter there and Lee Kuan Yew is half-way there. Charge them for corruption? Even mentioning the word would get you in defamation hotsoup.
