Hotel operator considers armed guards

The Federal Group is considering hiring armed guards.
A man armed with a gun threatened a staff member at the Derwent Tavern in Hobart's northern suburbs on Sunday night, forcing him to hand over the takings.
It is the second time in less than three weeks the hotel has been targetted by an offender armed with a gun.
The Federal Group owns the hotel and is now considering armed guards in its venues.
The company's Daniel Hanna says security was already beefed up after the first incident.
"We have reviewed it again in light of this incident and we will be taking further security steps to make our venues more secure," he said.
Some pubs have also cut back their opening hours.
