Holiday Scenery and Experiences! Come share!

I still remember that time back in the 1980s when 4 of us were tour driving from Edmonton to Vancouver but had a planned stopover at Kamloops for the night.

We did not book in advance and the motels were all full. We decided to have dinner at a local Chinese restaurant before looking around further.

After dinner and making conversations with the restaurant owner and explaining our plight, the Hongkong owner graciously offered us to stay at their house for the night FOC!

How's that for Canadien warm hospitality for complete strangers !!
luckily they didn’t cut you up for next day’s roadkill lunch special at the restaurant.

Whitehorse and Yellowknife are the best places in Canada to view Aurora. Go before Canada is opened to Ah Tiongs again. The Chinese Aurora tour group jack up the price so much that local can't afford them. If u go around winter, you can view Aurora as early 9-10pm..
Actually Calgary also can see.

I guess cos I live here I figured one day I will get to see lah. Actually last month there was a night the Aurora so strong can see from inside the city limits.

I missed it.

There is this FB group.

Only did touristy thing with day trip to Rockies one xmas, eons ago. And the bored US immigration bloke in Seattle gateway was sarcastic to say in my face, asking aloud why would anyone travel on xmas eve.

And Vancouver (then nicknamed HongCouver what with Hongkies migrating there after handover). Great chinese food, good coffee
Ha! Ha! You too? I was on a greyhound from Seattle to Vancouver and the fat border guy looked at my sinkee passport and looked surprised and said out loud "Ah Singapore! Singapore Girl, a great way to fly!" He was referring to SIA, the only thing he knows about Singapore. That was many many years ago.

My relative had a family up in his attic.

Actually, I'm due for another visit up there soon. What are the current restrictions for travel to Canada now? Do you know?
Honestly I dont know. Haha.

I think still got quarantine.

But the Canada quarantine not as nice as SG one.

I would suggest not coming yet.

I do know that Alberta lifts almost all restrictions on 1 July. This Thursday!

City of Calgary mask by law until 5 July.

I am looking forward to hanging out with my friend @JohnDoe again. He just came back from camping at Cranbrook KOA. He bought a VW campervan last month.

Actually that is a testament to how good that advertising campaign was. SG is such small country.

Greyhound ceased operations Canada wide liao.

Yeah... that's what I heard about Greyhound. The only two things that most people know about SG at that time was the Singapore sling and the Singapore girl. Most of the time, they think we are a part of China. Nowadays, they think of us as being rich and efficient.

I think most of the white people cant be bothered.

Only the asians. Eg Indians. PRC. Hongkie. Vietnamese they know about SG.

On Sunday I drove to the self storage complex to return some boxes of Y22 PP cups to one of our fellow businesses. The guy is Vietnamese. When he saw me he said to me in Cantonese oh you from Singapore? I said yeah. He said in Cantonese Singapore got a lot of things to eat.

Lol.

I told him business has been quite tough for people open food businesses in SG.

Anyone living in Canada?

Come in and share your experiences. Food. Activities. Outdoor experiences. Hikes. Lakes. Ski hills. Ski mountain resorts. Beautiful buildings. Rivers. Ravines. Valleys. Mountains. Aurora captures. Anything!

not living there anymore sadly.

have u been to salt springs island? beautiful place. it's worth the trouble to explore the islands by car using the ferry.

one regret to this day is not having storm watched at Tofino. have you had a chance to experience it?

The most Northern and remote place in Canada I ever been is Fort McMurray, Alberta....had a big bush fire some years back ???

Why you went there? Work?

I have a friend who migrated in 2010 also he is now working there.

Yeah wildfire. Burned down nearly all of the city except for downtown. Disaster.

And coincided with oil price drop.

Last spring Fort Mac had flood! Caused by ice breakup clogging the river. 2nd disaster. This time most hit was downtown.

So while downtown survived the fire it was hit hard in the flood. :frown:

Actually I donr like crowds so I didnt really like it much.

It was fun in 2019 when Aurora Cannabis had a corporate event specially for our clinic group. They booked a Spectator box for us. Sadly by end 2019 the Cannabis industry was in very bad shape. So no more of such spending liao.
