Went to two very different Putien restaurants last week. One is atas type in ION, Putien

Salted egg spinach

Deep fried yan, crispy on the surface soft on the inside, very very delicious

Scallops

Fried beehoon, not bad

Cereal prawn, I believe this is more local than authentic

Overall, I'm not impressed. Can eat la.

Next day makannat Jalan Besar's Ming Chung Restaurant at 67 Maude Rd, this is another Putien restaurant

Queue if you are late

The restaurant

Sambal lala, taste local, very good

White lormee, only can say its not bad

Charmee, this one I really like

Tofu chaisim, the deep fried tofu is excellent, wish can order tofu only as its fantastic

Har Cheong Gai, again this is not Putien food rather its very local

I'd say this restaurant is better than the high end ION Putien

maude rd one better imo. doors away thai steamboat also bagus. bestest, many hfjs there n along syed alwi.

there is another along kitchener rd. high class. expensive. car jockey services provided.

Kermit, when you mentioned prawn paste chicken as being local.....it's actually a sinkie invention.
From the now defunct 黎三元 restaurant at maxwell road. Now reduced to a hawker stall in ABC HC

The next time you visit Ming Chung, you should order your food in henghua. They will then serve you real authentic Putian dishes. The last time I was in Putian, I only ate the lala and lor mee (Pa mee in hunghua) and some other real henghua dishes.

Actually many old generation hawkers are very rich but many loss to gambling wonder why they worked so hard and simply throw away their money like that.

Despite Putian's closeness to Xiamen minnan and henghua languages are a world apart. I can't speak nor understand henghua.
