A video of a quarrel between mainland tourists caught snacking on a Hong Kong subway train with local passengers has burnt up the internets in both Hong Kong and the mainland. Since the video was uploaded to Youtube five days ago, it has racked up half a million views, and a few hundred thousand more on various Chinese video sites. Here's a quick summary of what happens in the video:
At the start of the video, a Hong Kong man demands an apology from the girl and her mother but the tourists refuse, saying it is not a big deal. Others then join in on both sides.
One of the Hongkongers presses the emergency button and notifies platform staff. An MTR employee tells the tourists they can't eat inside the train and a mainland woman says sorry in English. A Hong Kong man then says sarcastically: "Oh, she knows English".
A mainland woman tries to explain the situation to the MTR staff member but is interrupted by the Hongkongers as the quarrel resumes. At the end of the video, a Hong Kong man says: "No need to speak to them. That's what mainlanders are like."

What right have mandarin speaking dogs to comment on HK speaking Cantonese? Mandarin is not the original language of the Han Chinese. Mandarin is the language of the barbarians that conquered Northern China like the manchus..so its safe to say that Chinese that are mandarin speakers are not true Han Chinese anyway...

Mandarin is another dialect in China, it is Putonghua, common language, it is not their mother's tongue..our mother's tongue or family's is where we came from , need it be Swatow, Guandong, etc..

Look at the security personnel in some MRT stations: middle aged aunties and white-haired lau ah peks. You feel safe?

PRC lecturer from a renown university in China has made headlines for his fierce criticism of Hong Kongers and even Singaporeans in a recent internet talk show hosted by v1.cn.

Lecturer Kong Qing Dong was commenting on a recent incident that took place on a Hong Kong MTR train whereby a male passenger had stepped forward to stop a PRC teen from eating instant noodles on the train.

The boy’s mother tried to explain that they did not know they were not supposed to eat in the train, but the confrontation quickly escalated into a shouting match.

The lecturer from Peking University launched a tirade against Hong Kongers and went on to make comparison between Singapore and Hong Kong, suggesting that Singapore as a country relied on laws to maintain order because its people lacks civic consciousness and without (the laws), nothing gets done.

"In Singapore, you can get fined $5,000 for smoking. Places that rely on these laws show that the people lack civic consciousness. They cannot get anything done unless you impose punishments. This shows that the people have no quality and are asking to be whipped."

Kong repeatedly criticised Hong Kongers throughout the show and called them “running dogs”, saying “the Hong Kongers were treated like dogs by the British in the past and they are used to it, so they are still dogs now.”

He also criticised the quality of Hong Kongers as “the worst in China” and chided them for looking down on Mainlanders.

Within hours of the Talk Show being aired, Kong and his comments have been slammed by Chinese (PRC) and Hong Kong netizens alike.

However, there were not much ‘noise’ from Netizens in Singapore presumably because Singaporeans are used to being ‘belittled and insulted’ at since the Government opened the floodgates and handed out Permanent Residency and Citizenship like candies to Tom, **** and Harry.

Singaporean netizens did not comment on Beijing's Professor's remarks because Singapore was mentioned only in passing for our world renowned fines as a example of a city governed by law as in Hongkong. No reason and advantage to drag ourselves into the fray when we are not the target of the tirade.

On the MTR incident, it is a classic demonstration of Chinese society as Zhihau has noted, the inter-provincial, intra-provincial, inter-city, inter-clan and inter-family prejudices are very much alive in Chinese society.

It is also, very much, still, a character of the Hongkong society, possibly because of the homogenous nature of its society that fuels it. In Singapore, although we have largely worn down these prejudices, occasionally we can still see some fire points.

Regarding the peom on the Singapore environment circulating in PRC, the writer, evidently, is someone who is not able to accept the rule of law and the cultural differences of Singapore from his homeland.

The Govt must think very hard before admitting such people into our society. Not only would they not be able to assimilate, they could potentially destroy the peaceful demeanor of our society, raising something similar to racial unrest. Do we really need such people? Babies or no babies?
