SHE felt as if her whole body was burning and was jolted out of her sleep.

But when Tan Hui Linn, 18, opened her eyes, she could not see a thing.

She heard her mother, Madam Cheong Swee Lin, 50, ask, "Why are you doing this?" but had no idea what was going on.

Later, the schoolgirl found out that her own father had attacked her and her mother with acid while they were fast asleep.

The incident, which took place at their Penang home on Jalan Batu Lanchang in the wee hours of 24 Oct last year, killed her mother and left Hui Linn badly scarred.

Her father, Tan Teik Swee, 53, a local government official, was charged with the murder of his wife and for causing grievous hurt to his daughter by splashing acid on her.

Recounting the events, Hui Linn told Nanyang Siang Pau that she did not notice anything unusual in her father's behaviour.

She went to bed in the same room as her mum and woke up in the middle of the night when she felt her whole body burning.

Hui Linn said calmly: "Dad threw acid twice that day. I couldn't see after the first time I was splashed. I didn't know it was dad who did it then.

"If I have the chance to meet my dad, I would ask him why he was so mean to me when he loved me most," she added.

The incident has left angry scars on Hui Linn's face, arms and legs.

She was almost blinded in the attack.

After more than three months of rehabilitation, Hui Linn can now see nearby objects with her left eye.

She still cannot see with her right eye. Although Hui Linn's body still bears the scars from that night, she has since emerged from her terrible ordeal.

She said: "I want to lead a normal life."

During her interview with Nanyang Siang Pau, she was bubbly and laughed frequently.

She said that she felt depressed when she thought she would be blind. But when her vision started to recover, she became more hopeful.

"That period of time was very painful. I took almost a month to come to terms with my emotions. I believed what the doctor told me and my condition eventually improved."

HORRIFIC: The acid attack last October left Hui Linn with scars all over her body.

Hui Linn, who was in Selangor for treatment, returned home to Penang on 31 Jan - the 100th day of her mum's death - so that she could pay her respects and celebrate Chinese New Year with her relatives and friends.

She said that her relatives initially kept news of her mother's death from her. They told her the truth after she kept asking them about it.

When she heard the bad news, Hui Linn said that she felt terrible and wanted to cry, but her family told her not to in case it aggravated her eye injuries.

Realising how hard it was for her relatives to have to cope with the loss and to have to hide the truth from her at the same time, she swallowed her tears.

What would she want to say to her mum?

"Mummy, sorry, I love you," she replied, adding that she used to talk back to her mother and felt she had let her down.

Hui Linn is now being taken care of by her uncle who has doted on her and looks after her like his own child.

She also depends on her elder brother for support.

Hui Linn still has to return to hospital on 17 Feb to undergo eye surgery, while her skin operation will be on 19 Mar.

However, she hopes to return to Penang on 17 Mar to celebrate her birthday with her friends.

Asked what present she would like to receive, she said: "Nothing really. Coming back to Penang is the best present I've received."

A 50-year old housewife died after her husband splashed acid on her at their home Jalan Batu Lanchang in Penang early Saturday.

A scare that went wrong
By WINNIE YEOH

GEORGE TOWN: The 55-year-old civil servant who poured acid on his sleeping wife and daughter had only meant to scare the woman and not kill her.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said the man revealed that he poured the acid on his wife but the corrosive liquid spilled over to his daughter.
Both of them were sleeping on the same bed during the 3am incident. The bottle containing the acid was found at the scene and has since been sent to the Chemist Department.
Cheong Swee Lin, 50, who was badly burnt, succumbed to her injuries about 10 hours after the incident while her daughter Tan Hui Linn, 17, sustained 60% burns on her face and upper torso and is now permanently blind.

Mourning son: Jun Hong (second right) holding an urn during his mother’s funeral Monday.
ACP Azam said the man told the investigating officer that he had not been having peace of mind for the past seven years due to “pressure.”
“We will apply to the court to have him placed under psychiatric observation for three months to check if he is mentally sound. As of now, we cannot determine the motive behind the attack.
“The case is presently classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction,” he said.
Tan’s brother, Jun Hong, 20, when met at the Bandar Baru Air Itam funeral parlour, said he wants to see his father to ask him why he launch-ed the vicious attack on his family.
“My sister does not even know of our mother’s funeral as I could not bear to tell her. She is still in the Penang Hospital’s intensive care unit recovering from her injuries.”
Also present at the funeral were SMK Convent Datuk Keramat board of directors chairman Lee Boon Hoe and St Nicholas Home executive director Ooi Chee Khoon.
Lee said the school’s student welfare fund and board of governors donated RM12,000 to the brother and they will try to assist Tan in whatever way they can.
Cheong was cremated at the Mount Erskine crematorium.

Council officer’s murder hearing put off
GEORGE TOWN: The case of a Penang Municipal Council licensing officer charged with murdering his wife and grievously hurting their 17-year-old daughter by splashing them with acid will be mentioned again next month.

Domestic violence: Tan being escorted by a police officer in Penang yesterday. His hearing has been put off due to a delay in Chong’s post-mortem report.

He was also charged in a Sessions Court with causing grievous hurt to his daughter Tan Hui Linn by splashing acid on her face and body at the same time and place.
When the murder case was called up yesterday, DPP Mukhriz Mat Rus told magistrate Noor Aini Yusof that Chong’s post-mortem report was not yet ready.
The court fixed Feb 10 as the next mention date.
Teik Swee was then taken to the Sessions Court where DPP G. Jaya Prem told judge Rosilah Yop that his psychiatric report and Hui Linn’s medical report were also not ready.
The court had, on the previous date last Dec 4, allowed defence counsel R. Dev Chander’s application for Teik Swee to be sent for psychiatric observation.
Rosilah fixed Feb 4 to mention the case.

Help for Hui Linn to sit for SPM
Friday, 30 October 2009

PETALING JAYA: The schoolgirl who lost her eyesight after her face was splashed with acid has got her wish to sit for the SPM examinations next month.
The Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (MES) sprung to her aid, saying that Tan Hui Linn was a special case and it would do everything it could to fulfil her wish.

Hui Linn could sit for the SPM either in school or hospital, said Education director-general Alimuddin Mohd Dom (bottom right in montage), adding that she would have to inform the MES so that it could make the necessary arrangements.
The invigilator could read the questions to her while she writes the answers, said Alimuddin.

Extra time given

Students with disabilities are given extra time when answering exam scripts.
Hui Linn, 17, became blind after her face was splashed with acid. Her father had on Saturday attacked her mother with acid as the mother and daughter slept on the same bed at their home near George Town.
Cheong Swee Lin, 50, died 10 hours after the attack. Some of the acid spilled onto Hui Linn, who sustained 60% burns to her face and upper torso.
The student of SMK Convent Datuk Keramat is still warded at the Penang Hospital’s intensive care unit.

GEORGE TOWN: Acid attack victim Tan Hui Linn is having a “positive outlook” to life despite going through an ordeal.

Putting on a brave front: Hui Linn chooses to remain positive about her life despite going through a tough time.

It has been more than three months since the Oct 24 incident when acid was splashed on her and her mother Chong Swee Lin, 50, at their Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim home here.
Chong died 10 hours later while Hui Linn, 18, sustained 60% burns on her face and upper torso and had to go through several operations to regain her sight. She had been admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hosipital since Oct 31 for treatment.
Back here since Jan 31 for her mother’s 100th day worship ceremony, Hui Linn will also celebrate Chinese New Year in Penang before going back to Sungai Buloh Hospital for more operations.
When met at her uncle’s house in Farlim yesterday, Hui Linn said she was hopeful that she could see again one day.
“The doctors have been working hard to help me recover my sight. The support from family and friends is the source of courage for me,” she said with a smile.
She also said she will not force herself to sit for the SPM exam unless she was ready.
“Seeing with one eye is quite a challenge,” she said, adding that she hoped to live a normal life.
"I only have my brother and we will be strong together,” she said.
Her father Tan Teik Swee, 53, was charged in a magistrate’s court with the murder of his wife by splashing acid at her in their home at 3am on Oct 24.
He was also charged in a Sessions Court with causing grievous hurt to his daughter by splashing acid on her face and body at the same time and place.
“My birthday is on March 17. I hope I can be back in Penang to celebrate with family and friends,” she said

Why? Why did the father do such a heinous act?

If there is pressure, he can walk away.

If he really cannot take it, he can jump off a building.

Why do such things to his wife + daughter?

So he should jump off a building? Why not you? Your penis has gone soft I guess, because it is his wife and daughter.

You should get the rfid microchip and be monitored everything until you kill yourself.
