Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre

People have said that Wuji would have married Xiao Zhao if she didn't have to go back to Persia to be the chief of the Ming Sect in Persia.
As to who "these people" are, I haven't a clue. :)

from TV, Wuji only treat Xiao Zhao as a sister, he wouldn't marry her.
He was infatuated with Zhirou from the beginning, when was it he started to like Zhao Min? Why don't he marry both women. :D

and Wuji gave up Emperor of China throne to be with Zhao Min.

<<<Generally, I have 3 favourite scenes from the tv series.>>>

Hi jw5. I am a big fan of the story, and my favourite 3 scenes are the same as yours. I think Louis Cha did intend for those scenes to be landmarks in the entire story.

As for the Guang Ming Peak scene, I think the newly learned kungfu used by Zhang Wuji in that scene was the Heaven & Earth Great Shift, aka Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi. He had jus learnt it to escape the Ming Sect secret tunnel after being trapped inside with Xiaozhao by Chen Kun with a big boulder.

Qiu Yang Shen Gong was mastered when Wuji was trapped in a cave. He found the manual with an ape while he was in there. Mastering Qiu Yang Shen Gong enabled him to purge the Icy Palm poison which was inflicted on him when he was a kid.

At the Guangming Ding confrontation, Wuji uses :

1. Qiu Yang Shen Gong to defeat Kongdong Sect leader and help him heal his injuries sustained from practising Qishang Quan (Seven Injuries Fist)

2. Shaolin Eagle Claws (mastered on the spot by Wuji) to defeat the Shaolin Monk.

3. Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi to defeat Abbess Miejue and to wrest the Heaven Sword from her.

Not sure about him treating Xiao Zhao as a sister, could be true.
He started liking Zhiruo when she fed him porridge and water on a boat when he was seriously injured and after her parents had been killed by Mongol soldiers.
However her evil acts subsequently put him off, and later she decided to be a nun and leader of the Emei sect, If not for these events, he might very well have married both of them.
Funnily enough, he only started to like Zhao Min when the Ming Sect was heavily involved in fighting the Mongols.

I think the ending with Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min together was intentional.

There seems to be a recurring theme with his union with Zhao Min, just like te union between his parents.

His father was from Wudang and his mother from Tianying Jiao, an offshoot of the Ming Sect. They were supposed to be from opposing sides, one orthodox, the other "evil".

When Wuji grew up, he was Han Chinese while Zhao Min was Mongol. Supposed to be arch enemies, but got together despite the oppposition from others around them.

Is Louis Cha trying to say something here?

Thanks for the clarification bro.
I really enjoy it when people provide details of this fantastic story.
You are absolutely right, he had mastered "Qian kun da nuo yi" by then and he used it to defeat Priestess Mie Jie.
Btw, he found the manual with an ape in a bear. :)

Louis Cha is always trying to say something.
In the Adam Cheng version, the series ended with Zhao Min being killed by the members of the Ming Sect. I used to think that was the ending of the story.

Wuji's parent were not killed by the Mongols. They were forced to commit suicide by members of the Jianghu who wanted to compel them to reveal Xie Xun's whereabouts.

As for Zhou Zhiruo, I think she was torn between her duties to Emei and her master, and her feelings for Zhang Wuji. The last straw for her was when Wuji left with Zhao Min just when Wuji and Zhiruo were about to be wed at the altar. Thereafter, her love for Wuji turned into hate.

No, I said Zhiruo's parents were killed by Mongol soldiers, not Wuji's.

Zhiruo was already evil before Wuji ran off at their wedding. She had already killed Wuji's cousin in order to steal the Dragon Sabre. Her duty and promise to her master before she died was the starting point of all her troubles.

Bro, just like you, I never read the actual novel. For me, that's because my Chinese is "koyak". Can read, but will take forever.

I was told that the ending was Wuji and Zhao Min lived happily ever after. But I was also told there are a few revisions to the story by Louis Cha.

I have watched the following versions :

1. Adam Cheng - when I was very little.
2. Liang Chao Wei - also quite young
3. Ma Jingtao - in my 20s. I think this one my favourite. Ma, though did a little overacting in typical Taiwanese fashion, portrayed Zhang Wuji very well. Cecilia Yip had that naughty look that suited her role as Minmin Temur.

Lately, I see VCD shops showing the latest version on their roadshows. Male lead is Deng Chao. Is this the one you are watching on TV?

I saw the Guangming Ding scene. The part where Wuji calls out to "Liu Shu" (Zhang Sanfeng's sixth disciple Yin Liting) and when everyone realizes that Zeng A Niu is actually Wuji : not as good and convincing and emotional as the Ma Jintao version.

Sorry bro, my misreading of your post.

Yes you are right, Zhiruo was already evil before the altar incident. But I think it was the breaking point for her. Before that, she was torn between her feelings for Wuji and her teacher's instructions.

Remember when Meijue asked her to make an oath that if she were to have children with Zhang Wuji, the males will be slaves and the females prostitutes? I think she agreed to the oath very reluctantly.

Are you also a fan of Tianlong Babu? (Nothing racist here .... hehehe)

I mean the novel by Louis Cha. I believe the kungfu in Tianlong is the most powerful compared to all other Louis Cha novels. Anybody who thinks otherwise please correct me.

Wanna start a new thread on this ....?

I think that's the version. I don't even know who Deng Chao is to be honest, is he a China actor?

I didn't like the Ma Jintao version. He acted a little like a dramatic cry baby throughout, and although that may have been the way Zhang Wuji really was, I like to think that he was more cool and composed ala Su Yongpeng or Tony Leung. :)

Yeah, that was a good scene at Guangming Ding. Yin Liting was about to kill Yang Xiao, wasn't he? Yin eventually married Yang's daughter Buhui (No Regrets), whose mother was of course the woman Yin wanted to marry years ago.

I only like Heaven Sword. Don't like Tianlong Babu for 2 reasons: the silly martial arts and Ken Tong.

No idea about Deng Chao. I don't really follow the entertainment news.

But there are some who catch my attention, eg. Tang Guoqiang, who acted as Yongzheng Emperor, and lately acted as Zhuge Liang in the latest Sanguo series.

Another one - Jiao Huang, who acted as Kangxi emperor, and Han Wudi's father in Han Wu Dadi.

Yep your recount of Yin Liting's story is spot on.

Jiao Huang is a very good supporting actor, but Tang Guoqiang was really home run no horse to run with. His Zhuge Liang and Yong Zheng will never be equalled. If equalled or surpassed, another comet must have landed.

Hehehe, looks like we have another fan here....

Did you see the YongZheng serial? I bought the VCD set years ago. Seen it front to back half a dozen times. Recently bought the DVD set.

Next up, probably will get the SanGuo set. Still looking for Han Wu Da Di.

Was just listening to "Ai Shang Zhang Wuji", the song from the Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre series starring Su Yongpeng.
Pretty nice song.
Clarification, that series starred SG's own Phyliss Quek who acted as Zhang Wuji's mother. Su Yongpeng acted as both Wuji and his father Cuishan.

The success of "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre" very much depends on whether the actress can truly bring out the character of "Zhao Min" . The previous Su Yongpeng version with Jia Jingwen acting as Zhao Min was quite a catch and breath taking.

However, the current version comes with too much talking. “Zhao Min” looks very stiff and stern while Zhan Wuji looks like serious Ah Beng. Will see how their acting proceed in the next few episodes when two women tried to steal their lover’s heart.

So far, the china series I like is the "romance of the 3 kingdom" followed by "Kang Xi" and "Shui Ku Zhuan". All seems like a sad ending and almost similar in messages: Power, Greed and Betrayer - inevitably led to sad ending. Let's hope this is not going to be so in Singapore.

I thought that Su Yongpeng and Jia Jingwen were very good as Wuji and Zhao Min respectively.
Su was not as emotional as Ma Jintao and not as serious as Deng Chao, the China actor in the 2009 series.
Jia was also great and very pretty too, pity about her real life marital problems.

Don't worry about S'pore, it won't be a sad ending because I think that evenually SG will get a strong opposition and they will make the ruling party accountable to the people. Maybe one day, the opposition may even be the pappies.

Current actors/actress sucks! Adam Cheng version the best!;)
