Anyone following the series currently showing on Channel U?
I think it's an all China production, don't recognise any of the actors and actresses. Like most China productions, the actresses are all quite pretty, the actors, not so much.
I watched the whole episode this evening only because there were no BPL matches. It's quite similar to the other productions I have watched. Last week, I was watching the football, but couldn't help turning occasionally to watch one of my favourite scenes, where Zhang Wuji uses Tachi Chuen to defeat the warriors working for the Mongols at Wudang Mountain.

Some of the other productions I have watched include:
The Adam Cheng version with a young Lisa Wang as Zhao Min
The Tony Leung version
The Ma Jintao version with SG's own Phyliss Quek as Wuji's mother and Cecilia Yip as Zhao Min
The Su Yongpeng version with the lovely Jia Jingwen as Zhao Min

Any thoughts on the current series or the story or the past productions?

Boring version. Draggy and lousy music.

The movie version with Jet Li is the best
but the story only half-way, we are still waiting
for the conclusion.
TV versions, there are more, got Wu Qihua's version
but my best choice is Tony Leung
worst is Ma Jintao.
I like China version for it locations shooting.
Real location. I only know Zhao Min by 安以轩
安以轩 is Taiwaness, she is the leading actress in 下一站幸福
Some familar faces but i don't know their names
esp. China actors and actresses.

The movie version with Jet Li was supposed to be a half comedy, it had Samo Hung as Zhang Sanfeng if I remember correctly. :)
I don't think there will be a second part, it's been too many years already.
I didn't watch Wu Qihua's version, don't think he is very suitable anyway, he's good for police dramas rather than period dramas.
Tony Leung's version was good but the actresses starring as Zhiruo and Zhao Min were not very attractive.
This Taiwanese actress is quite pretty, but not as pretty as Jia Jingwen in my opinion.

The real Heavenly Sword And Dragon Sabre song by Adam Cheng:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=郑少秋&aq=f

This version opens with a Chu Liu Xiang medley-intro leading into the real Heavenly Sword And Dragon song. Classic. Don't think you'd think it "draggy and lousy."
Nice song. Both of them.
I think Perpsective was referring to the current version's song, have to say that I agree.
Adam Cheng was really a great period drama actor. Don't think much of him as a person or as a modern drama actor (I thought he looked strange in The Greed Of Man), but have to say that he really did well on Heaven Sword and Chu Liu Xiang.

I have not read the book, but am a great fan of the story and the tv series.
Always keen to know when the series deviates from the book.

Generally, I have 3 favourite scenes from the tv series.
The first is the scene at "Guang Ming Ding", home of the Ming Sect, where Zhang Wuji uses his newly learned Jiu Yang Shen Gong to protect the Ming Sect against the heroes from the 6 sects who are trying to destroy them.

The second is the scene at Wudang Mountain, where Zhang Wuji again uses his newly acquired Tachi Chuen skill to defeat the warriors serving the Mongols.

The third scene is the one where Zhang Wuji and his compatriots from the Ming Sect try to rescue his godfather from Shaolin Temple.

Deviations are either due to director interpretation or budget constraints. Overall the book is always superior as they are packed with a lot more details. Especially if you want to know more about the martial arts.

Agree with you on the highlights of this novel. The condor trilogy is my favorite amongst Jin Yong novels.

Sadly I have to agree with most that this CCTV version is disappointing. Most annoying is the BGM when at Wudang. Nice shooting especially at Wudang but unfortunately they tend to pass off alot of Wudang locations for other places. All the red walls and green tiled buildings are all in Wudang.

my only complain about this serious is how come zhirou is so ugly and xiao zhao is so much prettier than zhao min

This version Zhou Zirou is okay just not as pretty as she is supposed to be. I too am a big fan of He Zhuoyan but the character Xiao Zhao is very enduring. Anyone noticed that all the girls have big eyes.

remember reading somewhere that from book, Xiao Zhao is most chio, followed by Zhou Zhiruo and Zhao Min.

Xiao Zhao is Eurasian.

I like the condor trilogy as well but not as much as Heaven Sword.
I like the stories about Guo Jing and Huang Rong and Yang Kang and the side stories, but I really can't stand Yang Guo and his "gu gu" (auntie).

Did you make this exact same comment in a Youtube posting? :)
I thought I read it somewhere.
In the Tony Leung version, Xiao Zhao acted by Maggie Siu, was prettier than both zhao Min (acted by Kitty something) and Zhiruo (acted by Deng Cuiwen who is now playing mothers on HK TV serials)

People have said that Wuji would have married Xiao Zhao if she didn't have to go back to Persia to be the chief of the Ming Sect in Persia.
As to who "these people" are, I haven't a clue. :)
