agree with bill. something needs to give or some shit needs to go. just solved one of the most enigmatic problems faced by plumbers in my toilet this morning, and this is after 6.9 months of water leaking in my tank and no one at home depot, lowe's and the plumbers' guild/union plus school knowing what to do about it. it was a slow leak where the flap sat at the flush hole in the tank. due to water dripping into the hole with flap shut, the valve went nuts every now and then and cried out with a shrieking noise trying to refill the tank. went to lowe's and home depot to shop for a new flap, but they had smaller lips. augmented the flap with a rubber washer but the washer got sucked into the hole. tried many things suggested by professional plumbers and home depot plumbing specialists but they didn't work. they recommended a total change of the toilet, but this contraption was new, barely 9.6 months old. i changed to this (new) one because the last one gave me the same problems with both a leaky flap and leaky valve. this problem had been on my mind for too long and i was losing sleep over it. moreover, the shrieking (valve) noise came up in the middle of the night waking me up. it was like an animal crying out and begging for mercy. the worst was that it was intermittent - sometimes quiet sometimes noisy. i was looking at home depot this morning for a brand new tank with brand new valve and flap assembly hoping to find the right tank. but the store assistant told me they stopped selling tanks (only tanks) long time ago. they sell the whole shitbang - tank and seat in a single box. this angmoh-designed tank and shit, oops seat, has been with us for centuries yet no one in the west truly think of a better idea to handle shit and revolutionize the way we shit. anyway, i found a 3" flap that has an extra large lip. viola! not sure if that would solve my problem, i bought it and replaced the old (9.6 months) aquasource flap. the aquasource flapper and valve are very poor designs.
here are all the shitty details: old flap (blue) in tank, new flap (red) in tank, cost (receipt), root cause of the issue, more images of old flap. no need to change the tank nor the entire toilet nor the valve assembly like professional plumbers and home depot plumbing specialists suggested.

root cause - not only was the lip too small and short, it was warped from months of pressure being pushed down by the weight of water and the suction pre-flush. for the first few months it would have worked like a charm as the lip of flap was covering the flush hole nicely, but over time the rubber got too soft and wobbly as it was sucked daily like a 699-lb afro auntie ayesha waking you up by blowing the bejesus out of your dick with her mofo lips.
