Elected politicians are quite a different group. Like towkays, many of them don't depend on politics or government for their wealth. Look at Michael Palmer. whoever is elected is supposed to be the holder of the 2nd key/custodian of reserves and that is why they increase the private sector requirement to that of a CEO of a company with S$500 million in equity and be profitable for the entire period that they served as CEO.
(why public sector need not meet this requirement is the subject of a separate discussion).
So how does helping mother to sell hawker food, cooking at home ,staying in a HDB, coming from the Northwest ect2 as highlighted by the ST makes the person a better custodian of our reserves?

Even the $500M equity is not good enough. That's why the incoming m&d president needs a council of advisor to tell the president exactly what to do when important decisions have to be made.
