He was also found guilty of grievously hurting the pillion, Mr Senthil Kumaran Palanisamy, 28. Both rider and pillion are Malaysians and working as waiters at Marina Bay Sands

A 21-year-old who ran a red light at an accident-prone road junction and caused the death of a motorcyclist on Friday had his two-week jail term dropped on appeal.

In allowing Iskandar Abdollah's appeal, the High Court considered that the full-time national serviceman had not deliberately sped through the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road in 2011 - the same site of a 2012 accident involving a speeding Ferrari and a taxi that left three people dead and two injured.

But the court increased a five-year driving ban to seven years and doubled Iskandar's $4,000 fine for causing grievous injury to his victim's pillion rider.

Then 19, Iskandar was driving four friends home in the early hours of May 16, 2011 when his Hyundai ran the light and rammed into Mr Yogesvaran Ganesan's motorcycle. The Malaysian, 23, died on the spot.

If death is caused, it is manslaughter if premeditated killing is not proven. It is not fair to punish this scumbag with just two weeks in jail. He should be charged for manslaughter, killing other innocent road users by driving his car recklessly. Motorists might as well use their cars to kill their enemies in the name of accidents rather than using knives and get the death sentence or long jail term. The four passengers in the car, maybe one got good connection. anyway, normally early morning, too many traffic lights at junctions. really irritating when no traffic. It should be disabled when traffic is light.
