SINGAPORE: A Bangladeshi national was sentenced to 10 months in jail and three strokes of the cane on Thursday (Feb 18) for molesting a 17-year-old student walking home from Novena MRT.
The victim had accidentally bumped into Setu Mohammad Ismottoha at the basketball court outside Velocity shopping centre at Novena. The girl apologised and continued on her way, but Setu began following the victim and tried to strike up a conversation with her.
The 26-year-old construction worker started to hug the girl and squeezed her breast, also kissing her on the cheek several times and putting his arm around her shoulder. The victim shouted for help and a male passerby came to her aid.
Upon reaching home, the victim told her father what had happened, and her father called the police. Setu was tracked down and arrested days later at Aljunied MRT.
In court on Thursday (Feb 18), Deputy Public Prosecutor Dwayne Lum called Setu’s actions “bold and brazen”, having taken place in public “in full view of passers-by”.
The DPP added that Setu’s touch was “not fleeting” and caused distress to the victim, who shouted for help.
Setu pleaded for a lenient sentence, telling the court his mother was ill.
For using criminal force to outrage the modesty of the victim, Setu could have been jailed up to two years.

When the PM openly proclaimed that the island nation belongs to everyone, even this Bangla took it to mean that he could do whatever he wanted and so he felt he could molest the victim in a country that belongs as well to a foreigner like him.
