A bartender tracked down his ex-girlfriend through pictures she posted on photo-sharing site Instagram and then slashed her male companion, severing one of his fingers completely.
The victim turned out to be her cousin. Yesterday, Muhammad Nurafiyan Mohamed Sani (photo), 20, was sentenced to three years in jail and six strokes of the cane, reports The Straits Times.
He had pleaded guilty last week to causing grievous hurt to Muhammad Mifdah Rosli, 21.
The court heard that Ms Nurul Atikah Abdulla, 20, was at the Azzura Club in Sentosa on the evening of June 8. There, she took a picture of herself and uploaded it onto Instagram.
Muhammad Nurafiyan noticed that the picture was also tagged under Mr Muhammad Mifdah's name and became annoyed. He then identified the other man from one of her pictures.
Ms Nurul Atikah had planned to go to a chalet in Pasir Ris later and he called her and demanded that she give him the address. She refused and hung up on him.
In the early hours of June 9, Muhammad Nurafiyan found out that his friend Ahmad Taqlyyudin Rosli, 22, was also at the same chalet through pictures on Instagram, and he got the address from his friend.
Muhammad Nurafiyan and another friend Muhammad Faris Kamal took a taxi to the chalet.
Both were armed with knives.
The duo had asked Mr Ahmad Taqlyyudin to tell Mr Muhammad Mifdah that someone was coming over to give him something.
At the meeting in a nearby hall, they attacked Mr Muhammad Mifdah without warning.
The victim tried to explain that he was merely Ms Nurul Atikah's cousin, but to no avail.
His face and shoulder were slashed and the index finger of his right hand was completely cut off.
The attackers fled and Muhammad Nurafiyan threw the 40cm-long knife he had used into the Kallang River.
He then went into hiding.
Doctors tried to reattach Mr Muhammad Mifdah's severed finger but it later developed gangrene and had to be amputated.
On June 21, Muhammad Nurafiyan was stopped by police at Bugis+ shopping mall. He managed to escape but officers found 0.61g of methamphetamine or Ice in the sling bag he left behind.
Yesterday, he was also sentenced to one year in jail for drug possession, which means he will serve a total of four years in prison. He could have been jailed for up to 15 years and caned up to 24 times for causing grievous hurt, and up to 10 years and fined up to $20,000 for possessing drugs.
Muhammad Faris, 23, who works as a mover, has been charged but has not been dealt with.

This scumbag's sentence is a light slap on his wrist for the violent act he committed against the victim..

A chap that I knew kena 3 years and 12 strokes of the cane for robbery with hurt.. He pushed a lady to the ground and took off with her bag..

Lady was unhurt but shaken badly but the IO and the DPP deemed my friend committed a violent crime and asked for a 3 years and 12 rotan sentence which the presiding judge duly granted..

This CB Kia Mat committed a bloody violent crime and yet he only kena just 3 years and 6 rotan.. WTF!!!!

sinkieland's punishment system is screwed up. This m&d also possessed drugs but it seems like they didn't even put that into consideration when they sentenced him cos drug possession should be a serious charge.

A Chinese immigrant who neighbours say struggled to survive in America has been arrested on five counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of his cousin's wife and her four children in their New York home - using a butcher knife.

The suspect, 25-year-old Mingdong Chen, implicated himself in the killings in Brooklyn late on Saturday, police said.

"They were cut and butchered with a kitchen knife," said chief of department Philip Banks III.

Two girls, nine-year-old Linda Zhuo and seven-year-old Amy Zhuo, were pronounced dead at the scene, along with the youngest child, year-old William Zhuo. Their brother, five-year-old Kevin Zhuo, and 37-year-old mother, Qiao Zhen Li, were taken to hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.


Family stabbed to death in US

Four young children and their mother have been stabbed to death in New York.

Chen is a cousin of the children's father and had been staying at the home for the past week or so, Banks said. He came to the US from China in 2004 and seemingly struggled to make it, Banks said on Sunday.

"Ever since he came to this country, everybody seems to be doing better than him," he said.

On Saturday night, Chen had apparently been acting in such a way that concerned Li, Banks said. She tried to call her husband, who wasn't home, but couldn't reach him.

Banks said Li called her mother-in-law in China, who also was unsuccessful in reaching her son. The mother-in-law reached out to her daughter, who lives in the neighbourhood, Banks said.

She and her husband came to the house and banged on the door, then called police.

"It's a scene you'll never forget," Banks said. The victims had wounds in their necks and torsos.

Chen was in custody. He also faces counts of assault on a police officer, which happened while he was being processed, and resisting arrest, Banks said.

Bob Madden, who lives nearby, saw a man being escorted from the building by police. He was barefoot, wearing jeans, and "he was staring, he was expressionless", Madden said.

The working-class neighbourhood has a large Chinese community.

A prostitute who allegedly took part in an assault against her French client is now on the run.

The court heard on Wednesday that Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, 23, jumped bail over charges related to drugs and causing grievous hurt to the client.

Nuurul Aliyyah was part of a group of five who punched product line manager Didier Moise Dominguez, 53, at his Marina Bay Residences unit in March. She had refused his request for a sex act, and called up her accomplices for help.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Stella Tan Wei Ling told the court on Wednesday that Nuurul Aliyyah committed another offence while out on bail. A warrant for her arrest was issued last month.

Meanwhile, Nuurul Aliyyah's younger brother, who was part of the group that attacked Mr Dominguez, was convicted on Wednesday.

Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi, 19, was a member of an online prostitution ring led by alleged pimp Malcolm Graham Head. The ring offered an underage girl who was only 16 at the time, and five men have been jailed so far for having commercial sex with her.

Hakim's role came to light on Wednesday when the court heard that he befriended the minor through Facebook and they became a couple.

By then, the minor had already been recruited into the vice business. She even took Hakim to meet Head and his girlfriend Veronica Patricia Rio, 19, not knowing that Hakim already knew Head.

The four of them ended up staying for a period of time in the same hotel room, and Hakim began working for the vice ring.

Between Feb 22 and March 4, he was paid between $50 and $100 a day from prostitution earnings. His role included escorting prostitutes to meet customers, ensuring their safety, and settling issues with problematic customers.
