MP's visit to my ah gong's wake

The humble guy did not make a grand arrival, just alone by himself.. He walk right up to the altar, lighted a joss stick and paid respect to my grandfather. After that he chat up a little with my dad and uncles before leaving..

PAP Member wont show up unless the deceased is someone they know or have previously help in their grassroot propaganda..And if they do, with a big entourage and his advisor will probably inform some reporter beforehand..
LTK since his Hougang SMC days has been showing up at funeral wake by himself as soon as his town council informs him that the void deck has been book for this purpose

Tan Kin Lian explains Tan Jing Quee memorial commotion

Presidential candidate Tan Kin Lian said that he attended the memorial gathering for the late Tan Jing Quee on Saturday afternoon as he had initially thought it to be a visit to a monument to commemorate the former ISA detainee.

Mr Tan was responding to queries from The Online Citizen over a commotion that was allegedly sparked off by his attendance at the memorial held at Singapore Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Institute. Mr Tan and his campaign team had arrived just as a tribute video to Mr Tan Jing Quee was being screened. According to eyewitnesses, he sat at the front for about an hour as the service continued.

But as Mr Tan and his campaign team were leaving, someone from among the audience approached him and told him not to leave without taking to the lectern and say something about Mr Tan Jing Quee or on the subject of the Internal Security Act. The man then became agitated and accused Mr Tan Kin Lian of hijacking the memorial to score ‘brownie points’. Mr Tan did not engage the man further and left.

Mr Tan later told the press that the man’s accusation was ‘quite unfair and quite impolite.”

“It was not right for him to confront him me like that without any context because I wasn’t certain if I would be welcomed to speak by the organisers,” he said.

Speaking to The Online Citizen today after attending the Singapore Karting Championship at Kartright Speedway, Mr Tan admitted that the event was first suggested by a volunteer on his team. Despite all that, he felt that it was a good thing that he has attended the event.

Low Thia Khiang is truly a great man, worthy of respect and filled with true feelings for the people Truly caring and concerned gentleman.

Guess its been programmed into many of our Singaporean minds that we are simply peasants and our MPs are supreme beings. But thanks to the like of CST, LTK & CSM they had shopwn to us that we are simply human with rights of being helped, heard and appreciated.

Agree.. When my Ah Kong a former PP resident passed away 7 years back, Mr Chiam came to the wake to pay his respects.. I was not there during the funeral as I was on an offshore job trip.. Upon my return few weeks after his death, my family members told me about the presence of Mr Chiam.. Good humble people like Mr Low and Mr Chiam are the True Heroes of Spore..

I know a friend who stay in Hougang also told me about this practice. They felt the sincerity, hence never failed to support LTK. It is little gestures that speaks more than a thousand words. By appearing and mixing informally with the people, they can pick up raw issues from the ground instead of staying in ivory tower getting distorted pictures from balls carriers. PM said before in last election that they were servants. Election over, dust settled, everything forgotten liow. One word - Hopeless.

They claimed to be servants before the election.. The day after the election is over, they reverted to being Masters of these land again.. In 2016, they will claim to be servants of the people again..

And it they found that the family is in dire need of financial assistance, or the deceased is a breadwinner, to follow up the case with the CCC. That's one reasons the MP is often followed by CCC members.

People like the thread starter are unaware of it as it is his first time confronted by such a situation. As it happens in an opposition ward, rightly so the MP should attend. He should not expect the PAP members or a Minister to pay a visit. After all, he probably voted for the MP.

Funny feeling - he probably expects a PAP MP to visit a wake, while he did not expect an opposition MP to visit. That's was why it came as a surprise to him.

Ironically, CST took the cue from LTK. From 1984 to 1991, that was not part of CST's outreach.

The only reason why he was alone was he couldn't get anyone else to go with him. This is evidence that he commands no respect within his own party.

On the other hand, the PAP MPs have no problems rallying their troops whenever they attend to their electorate.
