<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"-->MORE than 100 elderly needy at Jalan Besar on Friday received early 'hongbao' in the form of meal vouchers. The Jalan Besar King George's Avenue meal voucher programme is to help elderly residents living in the area cope with the financial crisis.
Ms Juian Lee, who is in-charge of the Senior Activity Centre (SAC) at King George's Avenue, said: 'We want to let the elderly know that they are being taken care of, and food is a daily necessity we can help with.'
Mr Low Chong Soon, 73, one of the voucher recipients, said he was 'very happy' to receive them.
'This is a big help to me. It lightens my financial burden and now I have more money to meet other needs,' he added.
'Each recipient is given 12 vouchers monthly worth $30 for a year.
