MANY users at home and in the office were left without Internet access for about an hour on Friday as SingTel's fixed line broadband service went down.

Customers reported that their Internet outage had started as early as 12.25pm, with the problem reaching many corners islandwide.

The problem has since been 'resolved', a SingTel spokesman said at 4.15pm on Friday.

Rubbish. It lasted till 2am for me. I was watching a movie DVD because of the disruption.

what's wrong with a little and minor hiccup? what so bad about singnet? singaporeans should learn to be grateful and appreciative of our world class standard. wait till you get total blackout for days then you know how fortunate we really are! be grateful to our world class governance! majulah singapura!!!

Some of us are trading during these hours & the downtime means lost of $$$. If you have a pending order which is delayed for 1 - 2 hours, it can be very costly.

I got a PC & Mac. When the PC has problem with the net, I check if the Mac has the same problem. When both got problem I know got a problem at Singnet. I called Singnets(1610) help line & after the long wait I ask them "WHEN' the service will resume?

Typical Spore answer "DON't KNOW" they then give me some number to call the technical dept. This is a typical SOP screw up. When people call the help line for answers, why are they passing the buck & asking the customer to call another number?

Not if you already holding a position & trying to liquidate a position before the price moves away.

Now have to factor in the uncertainty from Singtels "service" levels

Definitely have cost millions of losses :(

Don't forget that many people & businesses rely on the internet. This is not the first time services is down & each time you don't even get an apology

Most probably the engineers are doing some maintenance work at the back end.

Like that huh? Suka. Suka down the network for hundreds of thousands of customers without any warning during the peak hours on a working week day. Sure or not?

If my company network administrator did that he'd be out of a job

I was told last time those Singtel technician uncles will cut off the telephone cables at the backend. That happened when management cut their bonuses or kuai lan with them. I salute them for doing that and we really need this kind of talent to retaliate against unfair treatment.

Compensation?!?! You'll be lucky if Sinktel don't sue all its users for bringing down the network.

Yes, there was a blessing in disguise. I bought 30,000 NOL shares @ 1.15 and was abt to sell @ 1.18 making 900 enuf for aday when the connection went off. I was prepared to lose but when the line got back to normal STI shot up to 58 points and NOL was up @ 1.2. Isold at 1.2 making 1500 profit.

Surprise that people are trading in the Spore market in this holiday season.

I prefer the forex mkts & theres little action going on because of the holidays
