Good Malay Muslim touch, adopt, feedfeed 70 dogs like his own children...

Will this m&d couple be stoned by fellow m&ds?

SHAH ALAM, Selangor: Nurul Ain Abdul Hamid has more than 400 cats and around a dozen dogs under her care at SI Home Shelter. However, the animal she has deepest affection for is no longer living there.
Marvela, a yellow mongrel, was the first dog Nurul Ain, 28, ever rescued and she said it has a “special place” in her heart.
“I found her injured and tried to nurse her back to health. However, her two front legs were infected and had to be amputated. It was traumatic for me,” she said.
After the surgery, Marvela had to live without front legs and paws, which made moving around onerous. However, Nurul Ain said she remained “as adorable as ever”, greeting shelter workers by wagging its tail, hopping on its hind legs “like a kangaroo”.

Eventually, Marvela was adopted by a celebrity couple - comedian Harith Iskander and his wife Jezamine Lim.
“I miss her so much, but we still share her. They still send us photos and videos of Marvela, and I even visit sometimes,” added Nurul Ain.
As part of the shared custody arrangement, Nurul Ain would also take Marvela back to her home on some occasions.
Her husband, Muhammad Razeef Che Samah also has close affinity with dogs. The 39-year-old, who founded the shelter in 2012, also recalled vividly the first dog he rescued.

“I saw it being hit by a car and took it back. I wanted to find someone who would adopt but I couldn’t so it became my pet for seven years. It eventually died from a kidney problem,” he said.
Nurul Ain and Muhammad Razeef fell in love, largely because they shared a passion for animals.
While keeping cats is a norm in Malaysian society, caring for, touching and petting dogs is a controversial subject.
Many Malaysian Muslims consider dogs to be impure. Keeping them as guard dogs or for hunting is tolerated, but treating them as pets is considered a step too far.

“ISLAM TEACHES US TO CARE FOR ANIMALS”
According to the shafie school of Islamic jurisprudence, which is widely practised in Southeast Asia, any Muslim who touches a canine’s saliva or excrement has to undergo a ritualistic wash involving water mixed with soil.
Nurul Ain and Muhammad Razeef maintain that their work in giving dogs shelter and food does not make them “less of a Muslim”. But they recognise that Malaysian society, where a majority are Malay Muslims, has a social stigma against dogs due to its “perceived impurity”.
“We can’t change this mentality, especially in our Malay community. Some critics say what we are doing is wrong, it’s haram (forbidden). But we think Islam teaches us to care for animals and help them survive,” said Nurul Ain.
She noted that her intention of keeping the dogs in her shelter was to protect them from harm, keep them healthy and find them a family who would adopt.
However, after taking care of the dogs from when they were abandoned puppies, the couple has grown to love the dogs as well, and parting with them before giving them up to families can be difficult.

The couple shared that they have received threats from other Malaysian Muslims, most of them online, criticising them as “liberal” and more accepting of “ungodly” Western influences.
Nurul Ain said that these labels do not affect them, as they do comply with Islamic law by undergoing ritual cleansing after coming into contact with dog saliva or droppings.
“It’s a weird mentality. They would accuse us of no longer being Muslims, and some of them who are naive would say that dogs are haram to be near to,” said Nurul Ain.
DOGS BEING ABUSED DUE TO STIGMA: NURUL AIN
She warned that this stigma in society has caused many dogs to be abused and hurt.
In the course of her work rescuing dogs, Nurul Ain said she has seen dogs getting hurt by humans who would throw rocks, kick or even poison them.
“Some are aggressive, but a large majority of these dogs do not harm humans. But due to some religious misconceptions, they hurt the dogs. I don’t know why they have this mentality, but the majority of our community don’t like dogs walking around their homes,” she added.
While the couple is determined to save as many dogs as they can, a large proportion of the shelter’s resources is focused on caring for cats.
Since it was founded in 2012, the shelter, a three-storey shophouse in Shah Alam, has nursed more than 1,000 cats who were all initially sick but were rescued, treated and offered up for adoption.

Nurul Ain and Muhammad Razeef are unfazed by the criticism and controversy on them caring for the animals, and they are determined to soldier on.

This jiuhu chink better stop risking his own filthy slimy reeking of alcohol stinky neck.

just to create some controversy, for some cheap views.

there are two contrasting schools of thought on this matter.

the first says.

1. A good chink is a dead chink

the second says

2. nothing good about a chink

if the natives have to make a choice between the two, the results I reckon won't be pretty for the pitiful fools of malaysia, the jiuhu chinks.

Euthanasia of dog Loki: Owner feels 'vindicated' by AVS findings, says he lived through hell

SINGAPORE: A dog owner who euthanised his pet because of its aggression said he feels "vindicated" after a recently completed four-month investigation found he did not break the law.

Christian, who only wanted to be known by his first name, and his wife did not fail in their duty of care or commit animal cruelty after they put down their dog Loki in April, the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) said in investigations findings released on Tuesday (Sep 15).

The couple from Denmark adopted Loki in December 2017 from dog welfare group Exclusively Mongrels. Loki grew to become “more confident and confrontational”, with more frequent and severe bite or attack incidents, AVS said.

Loki bit and attacked other dogs and people on 12 occasions between 2018 and 2020, AVS stated, adding that his owners had explored various options before euthanasia, including medication, training and rehoming.

The case sparked outrage among some netizens who felt euthanasia was not justified. Some identified and exposed the owners, and criticised the Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group that conducted the euthanasia.

Exclusively Mongrels has taken legal action against Christian, 37, for what it said was a breach of the adoption agreement. The parties are undergoing mediation, Christian said.

"We do of course feel vindicated, but have still lived through personal hell for four months, where we just had to sit and wait for the conclusions," Christian told CNA in an email interview, referring to the AVS investigation. CNA also spoke to him on a WhatsApp video call.

"We could of course have jumped online like so many others, but we wanted to respect AVS, the court and their processes," he added.

Christian said he and his wife went through more than 10 hours of interviews with AVS representatives, and presented "countless pieces of evidence" showing training and rehoming efforts, as well as biting documentation and medical reports.

"AVS has also interviewed several people that knew Loki and had first-hand experienced his behavioural issues," he added. "I am relieved that AVS has concluded the investigation after four months."

Since an Exclusively Mongrels volunteer posted about the case on Facebook in May, Christian said he and his family had got a "crazy amount of negative comments (and) messages".

One of the messages, which Christian showed to CNA, contained hopes that he and his family would die. Another contained multiple profanities, including some directed at his wife.

"This was extremely tough and it became so much that we had to close down our social media profiles and we feared going for a walk if we were recognised and attacked," Christian said.

Christian made a police report following the torrent of hateful comments. In the report seen by CNA, Christian says that the couple received death threats made via comments and messages on Facebook.

Comments saying that their baby should die were also mentioned in the police report. The police told CNA on Friday that investigations are still ongoing.

The couple had a baby in early April, and they noticed that Loki was uncomfortable and nervous around the child, AVS had said. Loki had also bitten Christian on his lips around that time.

Christian said he has returned to Denmark after taking up a job offer there. "Obviously the decision was made easier when you are receiving death threats in Singapore," he added.

WHY WAS EXCLUSIVELY MONGRELS NOT ASKED FOR HELP?

Some netizens have continued to criticise Loki's owners, as they expressed disappointment at the AVS findings.

Exclusively Mongrels said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that it was "saddened and disappointed" by the "expected" outcome.

Christian said he was not surprised that some have "made up their minds already and cannot be convinced differently by all the facts in the world".

In particular, some netizens have questioned why Loki's owners did not seek help from Exclusively Mongrels before the euthanasia. AVS had said the owners did not ask the group for help in rehoming Loki.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Saudi Arabia has once again surprised the world as it continues to redefine the boundaries of public life in the kingdom.

After a series of extraordinary societal changes that included women driving, movie theatre opening as well as international stars Usher and Akon rapping to sold-out crowds, the kingdom now opens its first dog-friendly café to delight pet owners.

The café, The Barking Lot, opened its doors in June in the coastal city of Khobar, to delight animal lovers as there are very few places for the Saudis to take their pets outside the home.

Speaking to AFP, the café’s Kuwaiti owner Dalal Ahmed said she got the idea of a dog-friendly cafe during a previous visit to the kingdom.

“I came to Saudi Arabia for a visit with my dog, but wasn't allowed to walk on the beach with him.

“I was very sad and decided to help by opening a coffee shop for people who have dogs - and even for those who do not,” she said.

At The Barking Lot, the furry pals playfully romp around, while others sit on their owners' laps or wait patiently at the counter as their guardian's order drinks.

In one section, canines are treated to washes and blow dries as part of the grooming services offered.

"The idea of this cafe is very new," said Johara, a Saudi citizen.

"It's a distinct place where dogs can come and meet other dogs."

For Nawaf, also from Saudi Arabia, it was the first time visiting the cafe, which he described as "beautiful.”

"I came here to play with the dogs, which now have a cafe for themselves for the first time in Saudi Arabia," he said.

For the uninitiated, in Islam, dogs are considered unclean animals and are generally banned from public placed in Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom’s once-notorious religious police had banned the walking of pets in public.

However, after the ban was lifted, pets are becoming an increasingly common sight among the people.

The change has also encouraged many to operate animal shelters in several cities with adoption of strays gaining popularity.

The sweeping changes in the kingdom has been part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s “Vision 2030” strategic framework to reduce Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil, diversify its economy and develop public service sectors.
