The Chinese-educated and the poorly-educated do. Yeah English is the newer lingua franca between the three main races. It was Malay before. Surprised hardly any of these oldies used some Malay in their addresses as some older Chinese and even Indians could also understand it. Anyway for the opposition English is a strong language only apparent in the younger candidates, but they don't have much experience and knowledge about things, whereas for the older ones they have quite a clue it seems, but most of them speak poor English in their attempts to capture the attention of the English-educated and the banana crowd.

As a general rule, if your command of English is poor how could you expect to translate your experiences and ideas and convince people and the bullshit intellectuals among them who took tertiary studies in that language to debate with or believe in you? And so as a saving grace if those older politicans couldn't manage it they should then use their native language or even their native dialect instead, and quit using the official colonial language entirely for fear of sounding clownish to and creating ear trauma in curious attendees in the very least, before we touch on the other things.
