Girl believed to have fallen off bridge onto KPE

A girl was believed to have fallen from an overhead bridge onto the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) near the Pan-Island Expressway exit on Saturday morning, according to a Straits Times report.

The girl was found unconscious and lying face down (see pictures below).

Chinese evening dailies reported that witnesses said the girl, who is around her late teens or early 20s, landed on the road shoulder and remained motionless.

One driver told Lianhe Wanbao that the girl was on the flower bed of the pedestrian overhead bridge before she fell.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said they received a call at 11.05am and sent an ambulance to the scene. They found her right arm and left leg broken.

She was taken unconscious to the Tan Tock Seng hospital.

I sense that this incident is a failed suicide attempt.. She's a lucky that no moving cars hit her while she lying on the road unconscious.. From the picture, can see that her reckless actions caused a massive jam for the vehicles inside the tunnel.. Irresponsible actions by these kind of people are causing huge inconvenience for other people.. :(

According to Sin Min Chinese report, she's a 27 years old maid from Burma. She had run away from a maid agency in Katong Shopping Center.

this woman is really irresponsible, imagine she jumped right in front of a fast moving car, that driver would get a fright of his life and a pile up that follows

A woman has been hospitalised after she jumped off an expressway flyover yesterday.

The woman from Myanmar is believed to be in Singapore to work as a maid.

She had run away from a maid agency in Katong Shopping Centre before ending up at the flyover, located at the intersection between the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway, the Pan-Island Expressway and Sims Drive.

Witnesses say that she had stood on a flowerbed on the ledge of the flyover with her arms spread, before jumping 4.5m to the road below.

She was luckily not run over by any vehicles despite busy traffic at the stretch of road.

A taxi has passed by as the woman jumped.

The shocked driver pulled over at the road shoulder to notify the police about the incident.

The woman was said to have landed partially on a small tree, breaking its branches which appeared to have absorbed the impact of her fall.

She landed on the road shoulder and broke her right arm and left leg.

She was conscious but in pain when she was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital

She is currently in a high dependency ward and confined to bed.

Prior to the incident, she was said to have told other maids that she wanted to kill herself but it is unknown why she wanted to do so.
