Police descend on Geylang

A massive police raid in Geylang last night attracted the attention of many.
More than ten plainclothes police officers raided the area, making four arrests and stopping several men in the streets for interviews. Some men, believed to be hiding from the policemen, were even seen dashing through alleys.
The raid is believed to be in response to a fight last Friday that resulted in one death and another hospitalised.
In the incident last Friday, two brothers were slashed and chased to Geylang Lorong 11. One of them, Yang Xian Mu, 51, died in hospital later. The other, Yang Xian De, 47, in recovering from his injuries in hospital.
The fight is believed to be related to gangs fighting for territory in the illegal sale of cough syrup.
Cough syrup is one of the substances being abused in Singapore in the recent years.
