I don't think the case death rate of common influenza has ever hit 10% unless you restrict to those above 70 or 80

That's only because it's a new virus. Once things settle down it will probably be about the same. The only way of reaching that point is to go through the natural process. There are no shortcuts. Shutdowns just prolong the journey they don't save lives.
