A few postulations - that LHL didn't trust ground intelligence, that he underestimated WP's strength, that he was overconfident and of course, your conclusion. too.

Before everyone forget, pinkie DID chop off part of the orh koo (黑區）hougang from aljunied grc in the hope of reducing WP votes and add in the pap stronghold of kaki bukit. Apparently, the term stronghold was exaggerated as it seems areas that return in the high 70% for pap can swing as much as 20% when it WP contesting as proven when WP won all the divisions inside the grc.

3. The MRT platform is overflowing and one day commuter will drop off from the platform.
He should pushed for more exits for commuters at the station.

Also remember that LHL had gerrymandered in Aljunied just before GE2011, he removed a big part of Hougang (under Yeo Guat Kwang) to AMK GRC, and replaced it with Kaki Bukit. Without that gerrymandering, PAP's margin of loss in Aljunied would have been at least 5% greater.

The constituency PAP lost biggest in Aljunied was Serangoon constituency (Lim Hwee Hua) where WP won 60% of the vote. But PAP also lost each of the other 4 constituencies in Aljunied too, so it was total defeat for PAP. It was near impossible for PAP to avoid defeat in Aljunied, LHL should have replaced GY with himself in Aljunied if he had the balls, maybe then PAP would have had a chance
