As of 16 August 2021, we have administered a total of 8,464,972 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna), covering 4,440,268 individuals, with 4,155,680 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.

2. In addition, 151,089 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of 16 August 2021, covering 83,968 individuals. In total, 76% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 82% has received at least one dose.

Condition of hospitalised cases

3. 404 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 30 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 6 in critical condition in the ICU. Of those who have fallen very ill, 31 are seniors above 60 years, of whom 25 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

4. Case 67329, a 90 year-old male Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 17 August 2021. He had developed symptoms on 29 July, and was detected when he was tested for COVID-19 on 1 August as part of our community surveillance testing. The following day, he developed shortness of breath and giddiness, and was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was admitted directly to the ICU for septic shock from COVID-19 pneumonia. He had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but was advanced in age and had a history of chronic kidney disease and hypertension.

5. In total, 45 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

4. Case 67560, a 64 year-old male Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 16 August 2021. He had developed a cough on 2 August, and was conveyed to Raffles Hospital on 3 August after suffering heart problems. He had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of End Stage Renal Failure, ischaemic cardiomyopathy, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.

5. In total, 46 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

Update on vaccination progress


1. As of 20 August 2021, we have administered a total of 8,553,434 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna), covering 4,467,533 individuals, with 4,218,703 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.

2. In addition, 156,114 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of 20 August 2021, covering 84,345 individuals. In total, 78% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 82% has received at least one dose.

Condition of hospitalised cases

3. 364 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 22 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 7 in critical condition in the ICU. Of those who have fallen very ill, 23 are seniors above 60 years, of whom 18 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

There is continuing evidence that almost all fully-vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected, unless if they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible. Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 8.8%, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.7%.

7. Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 377 cases in the week before to 260 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from 98 cases in the week before to 87 cases in the past week. The 7-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 24.7 and 12.4 respectively.

2. As of 21 August 2021, we have administered a total of 8,575,608 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna), covering 4,475,214 individuals, with 4,232,803 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.

3. In addition, 159,204 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of 21 August 2021, covering 84,530 individuals. In total, 78% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 82% has received at least one dose.

Condition of hospitalised cases

5. Case 67456, a 91 year-old female Permanent Resident, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 21 August 2021. Her case was first reported on 3 August. She had developed symptoms on 30 July, was tested positive for COVID-19 infection, and was admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of chronic kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and hyperparathyroidism.

6. Case 67630, an 87 year-old male Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 22 August 2021. His case was first reported on 4 August. He had been conveyed to the National University Hospital for an unrelated medical condition on 4 August. As he was symptomatic, he was tested for COVID-19 and the result came back positive for COVID-19 infection. He had been partially vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of advance cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.

7. In total, 49 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

1. As of 23 August 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 94 new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection.

2. 59 of the cases are linked to North Coast Lodge, and were detected through testing operations conducted from 21 August after 3 residents at the dormitory tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 21 August during Rostered Routine Testing. So far, about 2,200 workers have been swabbed, and testing for the rest of the 3,200 residents is ongoing. As a precautionary measure, all residents at the dormitory have been placed on Movement Restriction Order. The confirmed cases are mostly asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

3. Of the remaining 35 cases, 16 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine. 19 are currently unlinked. Amongst the cases are 2 seniors above 70 years who are unvaccinated/ partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.

4. In addition, there are 4 imported cases, who have already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. 2 were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while 2 developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

4. Case 67375, an 86 year-old female Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection on 23 August 2021. Her case was first reported on 2 August. She had been admitted to Changi General Hospital on 23 July for an unrelated medical condition, and tested negative for COVID-19 during admission and again on 29 July. She was detected when she was tested on 2 August as she had been identified as a close contact of a patient who was a confirmed case. She had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of cancer and hypertension. In total, 50 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.
