Trump lamented the levels of US, Chinese and Russian military spending at a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He at the White House on Thursday, part of the ongoing talks to resolve the trade war between Washington and Beijing.
“As you know China is spending a lot of money on military, so are we, so is Russia and those three countries I think can come together and stop the spending and spend on things that maybe are more productive toward long-term peace,” Trump said.

Trump has repeatedly hammered NATO allies over their reluctance to spend at least 2 percent of their GDP on their military, including purchases of US weapons systems. He also reportedly pushed for allies to pay the full cost of US troops based on their territory, as well as an additional percentage based on whether their policies “align closely” with Washington.
China’s 2019 military budget was estimated at $224 billion, and Russia’s was far more modest at $44 billion. Meanwhile, the US national debt has surpassed $22 trillion and is continuing to rise.

"Don't make weapons," Trump wants to pull China and Russia to jointly limit military spending?

[Global Network Reporter Zhu Mengying] After substantially increasing the Pentagon's military spending budget and demanding that NATO increase military spending, US President Trump began to complain that all of this money could be spent better elsewhere.

According to the Washington Observer, on April 4, local time, Trump said he is interested in reaching a new arms control agreement with China and Russia to reduce "absurd" military spending.
"They made a lot of weapons, amazing weapons. We are the same. Last year, we only approved a budget of 716 billion US dollars in military spending, and this year may create more," Trump told reporters at the White House, "Russia, China. And our United States is making hundreds of billions of dollars worth of weapons, including nuclear weapons, which is ridiculous."
"China has invested a lot of money in the military. We are the same, and Russia is the same. I think we can stop these expenses together and spend money on things that may be more conducive to long-term peace." Trump said, " If we all unite and don’t make weapons, I think it will be much better."
Trump's logic, the Russian media can not stand. In the report, RT repeatedly stressed that Trump is actually the one who raises US military spending. In his first year in office, Trump raised the US military spending budget to over $700 billion, and that number is expected to reach $718 billion in 2020. The report also mentioned that in 2018, the US military expenditure budget ranked first in the world, surpassing the sum of the military expenditures of the 12 countries that followed.
Compared with the United States, China’s defense spending budget for 2019 is only 1.19 trillion yuan (about 177.61 billion US dollars), about a quarter of the United States. The figure for Russia is about $44 billion.

I think it’s much better if we all got together and we didn’t make these weapons.
Such a proposal is indeed rich, coming from a president who raised the Pentagon budget to over $700 billion his first year in office, and hopes for a $718 billion or more in 2020 – more than the next 12 countries combined. Also on rt.com US may demand ‘allies’ pay 150% for privilege of hosting troops
