Free MRT services for off-peak hrs - will it work???

Will only reduce 2% maybe.
Should be off peak before alight 7.30am in any station free. Alight after 8.00am~9.30 surcharge 50 cent.
Then will see maybe 10% traffic reduce during peak.

Look like this is going to happen! More MPs now speaking up to support it.

How does SMRT cover costs if they let you use their trains free? They will probably increase fares during peak hours :)

Old folks can then be used as deliverymen. ;) Old folks don't have to ride bikes and get killed in accidents but you have to wait a little longer for your parcels or food packages if you wants it cheap.

But how to be free when SMRT and SBS are private companies and listed?

Agree. They are a for-profit corporate.

Which reminds me of the SBS who complains that they are just barely breaking even.. quite funny. Have you heard of a literal monopoly "just breaking even"? Perhaps someone is getting too much bonus!

But those that chose to take a car instead don't care about saving a few bucks on MRT rides. They stick to cars for convenience or 'face' reasons.

Should be....those who chose to use the car or those who chose to drive not those that chose to take a car. You take a taxi not a car

Quite a useless proposal from a quite useless MP.

People commute by cars obviously for a good reason - they find them convenient and reliable, you can choose when you want to leave yr house, if you have to make a few trips to deposit yr baby or child at yr parents' or grandparents' before going to work, you plan to make multiple visits to clients, etc etc. So offering free rides at hours that are not useful only attracts the wrong crowd. Moreover, people dont just get up early to go for free rides, so I wonder who benefits in the end?

Public transport - MRT. LRT, buses, taxis - has to be convenient and reliable and affordable for the majority at all times esp car owners and motorists before they will give up their cars and motorbikes. But I guess beyond thinking about using money as a tool, the PAP cant come up with quality real solutions to attack "convenience, reliable, affordable" issues.

In life there is no free rides. This MP has lost his marbles knowing what the answer will be to his "solution."

Despite all his talk, I have yet to see him or any Minister abandoning his car and show us the way by taking buses and MRT or hailing a cab.

For all the initial hurrah, Lui's photo-op ploy was just, well, a ploy, more to troubleshoot than to share the common man's burden.

Solution is to ban foreigners from using the Mrt between 0730 and 0855. Not happy can go and bid for COE to drive.

Cannot buy car? go home lor.

Interesting idea ...no doubt from a PAP MP. Put that aside a minute, maybe it's not a bad idea after all?

Google Reader helps you find and keep track of interesting stuff on the web. You can subscribe to your favorite websites, and keep up with what's popular. New content comes to your Google Reader when it's posted, so you don't need to visit individual sites.

Plus, Reader keeps track of which items you've read, so you only see unread items when you come back. If there's a blue border to the left of an item, Reader is marking that item as read.

Give it a try by scrolling down to the next item!
