Foxconn founder Terry Gou asks gods if he should run for president

Lai (DPP), Ko (TPP) and Hou (KMT) are not corrupted. These three should be good presidents if anyone of them win.

Independent-Candidate Terry + TPP Ko Wen-je has the best odds against Lai.
Terry will garner the pro-china voters
Ko will get the youth and middle-voters

KMT Terry + KMT Han Kuo-yi will be the best combination for a pure KMT nomination, however they are unlikely to win.

Ko Wen-je is leading in the polls

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn founder and former CEO Terry Gou (郭台銘) has asked the gods to decide whether he should run for president in 2024.

According to a report from UDN, Gou visited the Cihui and Jieyun Temples in Banqiao, New Taipei this morning, telling reporters he “asked the gods and will let them decide” whether he should run for the nation’s top office in 2024.

UDN reported large and lively crowds of Gou’s supporters at the temples, places where Gou said he grew up around and visits every year.

Despite what the gods may say, a January 5 poll indicated New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) remains as the frontrunner for the opposition Kuomintang. Gou came second in the poll at 28.6%, followed by Eric Chu's (朱立倫) 7.9% and media personality Jaw Shaw-kong's (趙少康) 4.0%.

In 2019 Gou announced that he would run for the presidency as the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate, but was beaten by former Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) in a competitive primary. In April of the same year CNA reported Gou's claim that the deity Mazu came to him in a dream, instructing him to do good for the Taiwanese people.

KMT will likely begin discussions on choosing a candidate in March, according to UDN.

Lai (DPP), Ko (TPP) and Hou (KMT) are all former/current mayors who were all honest, very hardworking and serious during their stints.

Businessmen in Taiwan also hate Terry for Foxconn being ruthless not only to competitors but also their suppliers (heavy penalties imposed to make money from suppliers in the course of their business).

- If Terry represents KMT, they stand to lose supporters to TPP.
- If Terry can't represent KMT, he may work with TPP (although he claimed to support KMT's final candidate). Terry's prodigies, eg newly-elected HsinChu mayor Ann Kao cooperate closely with TPP.

Apple iPhone maker Foxconn being investigated in China as founder runs for Taiwan presidency

Taiwan’s Foxconn, one of Apple’s largest suppliers, is being investigated by authorities in China, according to state media.

The probe comes weeks after founder Terry Gou announced his bid for Taiwan’s presidency and stressed that he won’t be pressured by Beijing, despite his extensive business operations in the country. While it is unclear whether the investigations are connected to Gou’s entrance into the presidential race, analysts said the move will send jitters through foreign businesses in China.

On Sunday, the state-owned Global Times reported that tax authorities had recently audited Foxconn’s key subsidiaries in the provinces of Guangdong and Jiangsu, where it has major factories. The natural resources ministry had also investigated the company’s use of land in Henan and Hubei provinces, it reported, citing anonymous sources.
