Foxconn said on Sept 7 that none of its interns were forced to work on iPhone projects.
"All of our interns can terminate their internship and leave the company at anytime they want," Foxconn said in an email press release.
Foxconn's remarks were referred to some media's coverage that some Chinese vocational school students were forced to work as interns for Foxconn as the company is working on the production project for new iPhone's USB cables, as more manpower is needed at the moment.
An intern could be paid 1,550 yuan (US$240) a month but overtime hours will be needed if the intern's performance is behind schedule.
Foxconn said that Fair Labor Association has conducted an investigation against the company's three Chinese plants and no such conditions were found to exist. The company has signed many internship projects with several local vocational schools with internship periods between one month and six months. The total amount of interns at Foxconn are about 2.7% of the entire employee count.
