Four burnt to death after car burst into flames in accident
KUANTAN (Bernama): Four people were burnt to death after their Proton Persona car burst into flames after colliding with a trailer laden with coconuts at Km119 Jalan Kuantan-Segamat at 10.30pm Saturday. Rompin police chief DSP Johari Jahaya said the dead were car driver Rosli Mat Isa, 28, and passengers Md Sharif Nani, 61, Marinah Kambas, 60, and Patimah Ramli, 46.
"All of them died at the scene. The driver of the lorry and his assistant were only lightly injured," he said when contacted by Bernama. He said the car was travelling from Kuantan to Segamat and it was raining heavily and road conditions were slippery at the time of the accident. He said the accident happened on a downhill bend and police believed the car skidded before colliding with the trailer which was coming in the opposite direction.
"The car was trapped underneath the trailer before catching fire. The fire also spread to the trailer but its driver and assistant managed to escape," he said. The bodies of the victims, all from Taman Ayer Keroh, Malacca, were sent to the Muadzam Shah Hospital.
