Former Straits Times journalist found dead in flat

the coroner should let us know what is the cause of the sudden death so that we can all learn from this....so many sudden deaths among the young, and we old uncles still around living in ignorance...maybe we can do something to help..

at least provide some more details...heart attack? choke on own vomit? suicide? see ghosts??

He just died yesterday, autopsy not even be done. Cause of death will have to wait six more months before coroner will announce.

Police have classified former Straits Times journalist Chong Chee Kin's death as "natural death". The 39-year-old was known to suffer from diabetes and a doctor certified that he died of heart failure.

His body was discovered in his Kim Keat Road apartment on Thursday evening by family and friends, who found him lying on his bed. Police said they received a call for assistance at 9.38pm on Thursday. When they arrived, they found Mr Chong lying motionless.

The English literature and theatre studies graduate from the National University of Singapore was a career journalist who spent 14 years with Singapore Press Holdings, starting out as a crime reporter with The Straits Times. Before that, he had acted in local production The Teenage Textbook Movie alongside Melody Chen and Caleb Goh.

He went on to hold various positions with the news organisation, including assistant news editor in The Straits Times and news editor in MyPaper. His most recent role was helping The Straits Times newsroom increase its online presence

Well, this is what inevitably happens when you don't exercise and won't stop stuffing your mouth.

death due to heart failure? don't you think this is not medically correct? any doctor in the house?

of course when you die heart surely fails lah...but what causes the heart to fail? diabetes yes, but what other complications did he have? uncontrolled diabetes? too high or too low? or what? ....we need to be educated. there are many diabetics in singapore....was he hypertensive? was he having high cholesterol ? ...

so we need to know for our own knowledge. death due to heart failure tells us nothing...:(

I think this "natural" method is painless to die rather than people who suffered chronic diseases and constantly have to go for medical attention and fed with doses of medicine using PAP style. Will PAP attend his wake since he was also once a deputy political editor?

What was his PES status? Did he take his annual IPPT?

rip... deserve some sympathy

probably woke up in the middle of the night gasping for his last breaths in between horrific chest pain. tried to shout for help but realised its pointless as he lives all alone.

yes, my total sympathy and empathy. but it's good for young singaporeans to know the possible causes. many died suddenly....:(...some from unknown causes...

Comparing SPH journalists to poets, literary icons, genuine authors, thinkers etc is like calling pig swill food. There is no doubt that pig swill is indeed food but they are both at opposite end of the spectrum.

SPH journalists are controlled, well paid to sleep nights and at the end of the day they do what is expected by the govt. There is no comparison. They might indeed have all attributes of a first class journalist or a literary genius but the operating environment is wholly different. Remember Janadas Devan and his highly bombastic articles on the US and the English language each week. Everyone except the slow would know that it is a political arrangement. Now he is the Pravda Chief and no one is surprised.

During the period of political bereavement surely you cannot expect Nair junior to politically comment where his father and the old man's views are in sync. Senior is gone, time has passed and now to do what the Nair clan which old man explained clearly during the Viswa Sathasivam episode in parliament do best.

Good comment!!! Pravda Chief!!! Wow that speaks for everything! Great!

Ironically, he might have had a hand in perpetuating the fallacy of Singapore being the healthiest cuntry in the world. :D
