An unemployed man was fined $2,500 on Wednesday for hurling abuse at a police officer.

It followed actions stemming from a Woodlands resident's complaint on July 9 that 37-year-old Lim Liang Ginn had again let his dogs run around without a leash. The police came and saw the two unleashed dogs.

When the resident and Staff Sergeant Abdul Rauf Hashim approached Lim, he became hostile and did not heed advice to keep the peace. However, Lim told the police he was remorseful for his actions but said he preferred his dogs to run freely as he believed that animals should be allowed some freedom. He also added he had no intention to terrorise or cause inconvenience to anyone.

Subsequently, he was arrested and handcuffed. He then abused Staff Sgt Abdul Rauf who turned down his request to loosen his handcuffs slightly.
