Foreign businesses voice labour concern to MOM

Don't you guys find it weird that 9 foreign chambers could actually get together to beg MOM to open the floodgates to FT right on the day the population white paper was supposed to be debated in parliament?

They have already been squeezed so tightly, its about time they raise their voice. This is the right timing

They just want to hire cheap foreigners ...there is NO labour shortage, just the cheap ones.

The PAP had this problem a few decades ago ...it did nothing to address the problem of moving sinkapore up the value chain. We are still facing the same issue of employers wanting cheap labour while the cost of living for all sinkees keep shooting up.

Foreigners are ok, better than sinkies like me and my family.

It would be better if they are vegetarians.

Im sure foreign companies dont come to Singapore for cheap foreign labour. They will go straight to countries where that cheap labour comes from instead eg. china, india and so on.

Ya right. The income gap is just a hoax. And the reluctance to implement minimum wage is actually to hone the industriousness of true pink Singaporeans

Waiting for Tan Chuan Jin's reply, hope he doesn't take too long

Collectively indeed, these 9 FCCs are issuing a warning shot across the government's bow. Diplomacy aside, they are effectively telling the ruling party: "Fix this problem or face the consequences."

How many of our million dollar ministers understand the true implications of such an open letter? The nine chambers did not happen to bump into each other and decide - Hey, let's issue a joint statement to voice our "concerns". What they are doing is strategically holding the government to ransom, and the ivory tower scholars who've never been in the cut-throat world of business are still in lala-land.

The PAP has already lost the faith and confidence of its people. Now it is losing that of the business players.

Watch out for the Newspeak of the government reply to these 9 FCCs. Or better not, you'd be better off using the newsprint as bird cage lining.

In SG, these foreign businesses get to have their cake and eat it. They get ready access to a source of cheap labour, excellent infrastructure and an extremely safe business environment. If they go to the countries providing the cheap sources of labour, they will face multiple uncertainties and there is high chance of getting cleaned out. Worse still, they may lose all their intellectual property.

If you are the government, what will you do? You screw the guys who are the most submissive because you just want to stay in power. The angmohs found it far easier to colonise faraway lands and force the natives into submission than to control their own people. Don't repeat the same mistake again.

Somehow i sensed you from the beginning when you posted that bo liao poll on posting Tampines accident picture. I knew there is something wrong in your head.

It's like a well coordinated move, PAP is in deep collusion with foreign business interest?

It's time we take control of who we allow to do business here in SG, those who threaten to leave are better off leaving.

Whats wrong? Which labour intensive industry settled in Singapore because labour is so cheap here?

Good idea, start by kicking out the 9 countries who signed the letter. Let me know how it went.
