Foreign bus captain speeds and rants loudly at family who can't understand him
A STOMPer on board bus service 147 asked his wife to put their young daughter back into her pram as the Bus Captain was speeding. However, when the bus stopped, the driver ranted loudly at them, but they could not understand what he was saying.
The STOMPer shares his account:
"I boarded bus number 147, plate number SBS7324S at Jalan Bukit Merah around 10.55am on Sunday, March 25. I was with my wife, son and our 10-month-old daughter.
"After we boarded the bus for about three minutes, I felt worried for my wife who was seated and carrying our daughter in her arms because the bus driver was driving like a crazy bull. He drove so fast and often stopped abruptly and almost beat a traffic light.
"I was standing at the handicap seat area, holding onto the pram. After one bus stop, I asked my wife to pass our daughter to me and I would place her in the pram. I was worried for the safety of our daughter.
"When the bus stopped, the driver, believed to be a Chinese national, came up to us and told us off but we could not understand. So I asked him to please speak in English.
"He kept on rambling and his tone of voice was loud and aggressive. He even tried to shove a flyer at me.
"A passenger translated his words and told me the driver was telling me I cannot put my baby in the pram and I need to carry her. After I got off the bus to take a photo of him, he sarcastically laughed it off.
"What a bad experience my wife and I had today, riding on an SBS bus. Such a disappointment when all the fares have gone up but not the standard of serving commuters like us. I may have made a mistake but I don't think this is the way to handle commuters.
"I found his behaviour very rude -- at least talk to us in a polite manner, but he made us feel as if we committed an offence. His actions were unprofessional and he should be patient towards us.
"What kind of a bus driver is this? Is he a bus driver or a gangster, coming up to me like this? I've nothing against foreign drivers.
"Everyone was holding on tight while seated in the bus. After that, he started driving at a slower pace."
