Sun's gossip and intrigue ...includes peacock CR back to England??

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/

Methinks the Spanish and Portuguese contingent @ REAL is coming to a boil How else would one explain the special one's desire to return to UK recently.

A few months ago, I read an article about Ramos and Casillas complaining to Mourinho about the peacock's selfish attitude @ the front line. I thot the players that mattered should have been Benzema, Higuain or any of the attacking midfielders and they are the ones who should have raised the issue with Mourinho. Player power perhaps or is it just the Spaniards way of telling their poorer neighbors that they call the shots at REAL.

Ferguson also made a similar remark not so long ago when he was asked about his possible successor at OT-the special one was uppermost in his mind.

Gerrard: Reds not good enough

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has called for the players to do more to lift the side out of their current slump.

The Reds lost a third consecutive league match at Sunderland on Saturday - the first time that has happened since 2003.

It has left them in seventh, just two points ahead of Everton ahead of Tuesday's Merseyside derby at Anfield.

"The players need to take responsibility for where we are in the league," Gerrard said.

"It's just not good enough for a club like us to be there.

"We have to find a better level of consistency. We need a reaction and there's no better team to produce that against than Everton.

"It's important the players put in a performance and get a result for the fans.

"Everyone is a bit down after recent results but we want to put a smile back on their faces.

"It's a big week and we want to go into that Cup tie with Stoke on the back of a win."

Less than a month ago, Liverpool lifted the Carling Cup - their first trophy for six years - and many felt it would be the platform for them to push for Champions League qualification.

It has not turned out that way and Gerrard said they had to put their Wembley triumph behind them.

"The Carling Cup was a fantastic achievement but it's gone now, it's been put to bed. We have to forget about that," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"We wanted to build on winning the Carling Cup by pushing for the top four, but it hasn't happened so far as we've lost two on the bounce.

"We need to sort our league form out sharpish and try to get back to Wembley in the FA Cup.

"That Stoke game (a quarter-final this weekend) has become even more important than it was a few weeks ago.

"The frustrating thing is we went from a fantastic performance, an eight or nine out of 10 against Arsenal, to a three or four out of 10 against Sunderland.

"We didn't deserve to lose to Arsenal but on Saturday there were no excuses.

"You can look for the easy way out and say the pitch was bad and it was windy but the fact is we just weren't good enough on the day.

"As players we have to take responsibility for a bad performance.

"We just didn't get out of first gear in the first half; we improved a bit in the second half but as a whole it wasn't good enough."

Manager Kenny Dalglish said it was not just the squad who were accountable but all staff at the club.

"It is important the players take responsibility in every game but we are not in isolation," he said at his press briefing ahead of tomorrow's derby.

"It is not the players taking responsibility this week and someone else has to do it next week.

"Everyone needs to take responsibility. Everyone needs to stand up and be counted and stand together and see what we can do."

Dalglish claims factors 'outside our jurisdiction' have hurt Liverpool

The 61-year-old praised the attitude of his players in training after the disappointment of their loss to Newcastle United and insists he has never let results get him down

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has claimed that factors outside of the club's control have been partially responsible for their recent poor run of form.

Dalglish felt his side were denied a clear penalty in their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday, insisting that Danny Simpson had handballed on the Magpies' goal line.

The 61-year-old praised his team's attitude to training despite their disappointing results and urged them to focus on improving their own performance.

"The players have come in Monday and they have trained yesterday and obviously there is a disappointment amongst everybody because of the recent run of results," Dalglish told reporters.

"The only way we are going to address that and rectify that is to work as hard as we have done.

"They've always worked hard in training, they've always been good trainers and we've just got to put any frustration or disappointment to the side and realise that they are good players that can alter and change things to our benefit that are in our jurisdiction.

"But there are other things that have happened that we cannot change, like things that are outside our jurisdiction that we have not had a break with. So there is no point in trying to address them."

Dalglish insisted that Liverpool's form had never affected his mood and that his team have already put the events of a controversial match at the Sports Direct Arena behind them.

Pepe Reina was sent off after appearing to headbutt James Perch, while Andy Carroll stormed down the tunnel after being substituted.

"Who picks me up? I've never been down, I've been disappointed but I've never been down," Dalglish maintained.

"We are fine, everything that happened this Sunday was addressed on Sunday and dealt with.

"Everything has been dealt with from the weekend so we just need to close the doors and move on now."

The former Blackburn Rovers manager felt that the frustration his players had showed could prove to be a positive and showed their will to win.

"They have been marvellously determined even through the results we have been getting," Dalglish added.

"Everybody needs to be picked up, but the best way to pick themselves up is to put on a winning performance.

"As I say that what they are determined to do. They don't like to come off a pitch having lost a game, the frustration and disappointment is something that is a virtue in some ways if we can control it.

"They can come in and train well whether they have played well or if they've played badly, their training has been very impressive."
