Five arrested in illegal gambling den raid

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested five men in a raid on an illegal gambling den in a private apartment at Geylang Road.
The five, aged between 35 and 56, were arrested in a five-hour operation which started at 11pm on Thursday.
A police statement said one of the suspects, aged 56, had rented the private apartment for gambling. The other suspects are believed to be patrons.
Nineteen modified computers and $1,800 in cash were also seized.
The 56-year-old suspect and a suspected patron, aged 37, will be charged in court on Monday.
Investigations against the remaining suspects are on-going.
Any person found guilty of managing an illegal gambling den can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000. He can also be jailed up to three years.
Those found guilty of gaming in an illegal gambling den can be fined up to $5,000 and jailed up to six months.
