Even if NATO wants to put Nuclear warheads aimed at Russia, it could have done so from their Baltic state member countries which are even nearer to Moscow and St Petersburg. Why Ukraine? Only 6% of Russia’s land borders touch NATO countries. Russia has land borders with 14 countries. Only 5 of them are NATO members. So, is there a genuine concern for Russia to be so afraid of NATO?Number of nuckear warheads placed in ukraine will far exceed tbat on nuclear subs. Plus within minutes from targets. If its terrain hugging cruise missiles, very difficult to detect until too late.
The baltic states nato membership will be next on agenda after ukraine. Russia protested nato expansion but was ignored. There was no need to step on a slready dead state. Soviet collapsed because it could not keep up with US in the arms race.now they want to do the same with russia.
In 1991, as the Soviet Union was dissolved, Russian president Boris Yeltsin sent a letter to NATO, suggesting that Russia's long-term aim was to join NATO. So its not just ukraine.
Anyway, with Finland and Sweden joining NATO a done deal by June 2022, we shall see if Bloodymir Putin will dare to intrude into those 2 new NATO member countries, which I totally doubt so because Bloodymir Putin's military forces are already too overspent now with the war in Ukraine alone. Corruption is also one of the root troubles in today's Russia.
